If you are someone that wants diversity when vacationing, Asia is the place for you to be. The largest and the most populated continent in the world has everything you can ask for – mountains, seas and oceans, deserts, loads of greenery and most importantly, the most diverse group of people you can come across. However, before you book your tickets to Asia, you need to create a checklist of the dos and don’ts when vacationing in Asia. Given below are seven places in Asia that you need to be careful about.
Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan, one of the breakaway countries from the former USSR. As of now Baku is a safe place to be. It is when you go out of Baku that you can face issues from terrorists. The Nagorno-Karabakh area is a disputed military territory and you shouldn’t even try and visit the place. If you travel to Baku, you should have your own medical kit. Medical facilities are limited and in the case of a serious illness, you may need to get transported to one of the other countries of Europe like Turkey.
You need luck to be able to travel to North Korea. It’s a country that is completely isolated from the rest of the world. The oppressive regime here is one of the worst examples of dictatorship. North Korea’s nuclear program has also been scorned at by the rest of the world. As a result, the country faces sanctions from most other countries. Getting a visa to travel to North Korea is next to impossible.
Maldives is a pretty, little place. It is the smallest country in Asia and has the smallest population too. Maldives is all about beaches and sunshine. The only issues that you could face here are from petty thieves. The diseases that are prevalent here are measles and dengue fever.
Kabul used to be one of the most beautiful cities in the beautiful country of Afghanistan. Unfortunately, Afghanistan as a country has always struggled – first under the Russian invasion and then under the Taliban rule. The horrors of the Taliban regime are still fresh in the minds of people. While Kabul is more or less a safe place to be, there are many areas in the city that should be avoided. Districts like Chahar Asyab, Khak-e Jabbar, Musayhi, Paghman and Surobi should be avoided at all costs. Terrorism is a major problem in the country even now. As of now, a vacation in Kabul is not really recommended.
Myanmar is not as well known as some of the other Asian countries. This is because of the military rule till 2011 that caused unending civil wars. Now the military junta rule has been dissolved and the country is emerging as one of the best vacation destinations in South Asia. Although people think that Myanmar is dangerous, the fact is that it is not. The people are largely peaceful and they are still trying to come back from the horrors of the civil wars. However, it is best to be careful and one shouldn’t venture out alone, especially at night. Mosquito-borne diseases are common in the country and this is something to worry about more. Medical facilities are limited and you should protect yourself against all possible health issues.
South Korea is a very safe place, although the North Korean regime keeps posting threats every now and then. Among East Asian countries, South Korea has the strongest US military presence. It is very peaceful and the people are among the friendliest. What you should be aware of in South Korea are the natural disasters like typhoons. The typhoon season is from June to November and should be monitored. As far as health is concerned, you only need to be careful against yellow dust pollution.
Mecca in Saudi Arabia is the holiest place for the Islamic religion. Millions visit Mecca every year to offer their homage to Allah. Saudi Arabia is more or less a secure country, but there have been some isolated cases of terrorism, although none after 2007. Al-Qaeda is known to have its presence in the country and the places of western interest are always on their target. So, it is best to select hotels carefully. There is one important point though that one should pay heed to – Saudi Arabia is one of the most “conservative” countries in the world. Hence, it is important that you adhere to the Sharia Law prevalent here.
With these advisories in mind, you should be safer in these particular Asian countries. The countries of Asia and its peoples are extremely hospitable and you can always expect the royal treatment. Once you experience your first vacation in Asia, you can be assured you will want to come back for more.
