Thomasville, Georgia, is dog-friendly town and has multiple offerings for you and your dog! From a park with off-leash areas to scenic walking trails, there is certainly something to meet your needs.
The Dog Park/Balfour Park
Certainly the most well-known park for dogs in Thomasville is Balfour Park, commonly called, “The Dog Park.” It has three fenced areas for dogs to run off-leash, including one area with PVC piping creating an obstacle course for the energetic jumpers in the family. Faucets and buckets provide access to fresh water and trash receptacles are available for disposing of doggy waste. Balfour Park also offers ample parking, covered picnic tables, tennis courts, restrooms, and a play area for children. The Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society hosts the annual Howl-O-Ween celebration here, which includes a costume contest and a show from the Thomasville’s K9 unit.
The Cherokee Lake park is larger than Balfour Park. It also provides ample parking, playground areas, and covered picnic tables, as well as grills for cookouts. A dog waste station offers bags and disposal system. A mile of scenic walkway around the lake offers prime walking space for you and your dog. You can also stop to “sniff the roses” in the infamous Rose Garden. All dogs must be leashed at all times, and don’t forget to scoop the poop! Added bonus? This park has “people restrooms” as well.
Possibly one of the most beautiful dog-friendly parks is Paradise Park. It boasts 13 acres of native trees and grassy areas, as well as playground equipment, picnic tables with grills, and a lighted gazebo. Thomas University hosts the annual Bark in the Park celebration here, a day of celebrating all things dog including contests, vendors, and more.
This beautiful park boasts large trees, small creeks, a disc-golf course, picnic tables, and a playground. Your dog will enjoy all of the sights and sounds in this sprawling park located near downtown Thomasville.
