You are what you eat! Are you surprised? A figure of speech you have probably heard throughout your life may have some truth. What you feed yourself has a direct effect on your body. As summer approaches, women everywhere are looking to shed a few pounds. It may be as simple as incorporating a few of these fat burning foods into your diet! Keep reading for additional tips on how to optimize your fat burning techniques.
Kale has been recognized internationally as a super food. According to the world’s healthiest foods, kale’s strong anti-cholesterol effects are most prevalent when it is steamed. In theory, kale can help move bile along in your system which in turn lowers cholesterol. Cholesterol is fat. Therefore, kale is a serious fat burning food! Additionally, kale has been shown to have anti-cancer effects in bladder, breast, ovary, colon, and prostate cancers. If steamed kale isn’t your thing, you can make kale chips! Kale chips are an easy and delicious way to enjoy kale in your diet!
2. Any type of fish!
Here I won’t limit you to any one type of fish. All fish are a great source of lean protein in your diet which will leave you satisfied. When you are satisfied, you will less likely be dipping your hand into a bag of empty calorie packed potato chips later on. One personal favorite fish of mine is Salmon. Salmon is full of omega-3 fatty acids which have been proven for a multiplex of health benefits. Studies show that fish oil supplements by themselves may not provide as much benefit as a natural Mediterranean style diet full of omega-3 fatty acids from fish.
What the heck does probiotic mean anyway? Yogurt of any type is a great way to start your day. Greek yogurt in particular tends to be extremely low in fat and high in protein. Many yogurts now are marketed as having additional probiotic effects. Inside your intestines are a multiple of bacteria, mostly good and some bad. Conceptually, yogurt full of probiotics help fill your intestines with extra good bacteria to encourage a healthy bacterial environment and consequently healthy bowel movements. Another interesting fact is that in France, yogurt is often considered more of a diet food for women who may have overindulged in calories the previous night!
Edamame is an ultimate food for women. Essentially edamame are soy beans in a pod. You must take the beans out of the pod to enjoy them. In my opinion, anything that needs to be shelled is a fun and interactive way to snack. What makes edamame special for women is that soy encourages estrogen-like compounds to be produced in your body. These special soy beans also contain omega-3 fatty acids. Plain or with a little salt added, edamame can be an addictive snack you try all day!
5. Corn with Beans: Ultimate protein for Vegetarians
For my last fat burning food for women, I am choosing a combination! Many women in my life are vegetarians including most of my immediate family. Corn and beans have been a staple combination food to many parts of the world including those of native americans, spanish and meditaranean cultures that provides a great source of protein. Usually when such a special combination of food is used is it not by accident. Beans and corn act together to provide nutritional benefit greater than they would if each ingredient was alone. The combination creates a complete protein full of the essential amino acids as well as the fiber the human body craves. Since protein is essential to a fat burning diet and satisfaction, this combination is a fantastic choice for vegetarians!
Is there a best way to burn fat? Additional Pharmacist Advice
In the pharmacy, I regularly am asked about weight loss products and strategy. The truth is that there is absolutely no substitute for eating healthier along with regular exercise. If fact, many weight loss products marketed as natural have a track record of being dangerous. Ephedra was banned by the FDA, but companies now market a derivitive of ephedra called “bitter orange” which sounds natural, but has the same effects as ephedra. As far as exercise, medical guidelines state that 30 minutes of cardio-sustaining exercise most days of the week is recommended to maintain weight, while 60 minutes is recommended for weight loss. Therefore, it is important to incorporate foods that are both nutritious and satisfying in adjunct to exercise to lose weight and burn fat!
