One of the recurring characters in the ongoing saga of the X-Men is Rogue. Rogue became a member of the X-Men on a different path than most. Rogue was originally a member of the New Brotherhood of Evil Mutants led by Mystique. Rogue fought against superheroes such as the Avengers and the X-Men. Professor Charles Xavier would help Rogue come to terms with her past actions and persuade her become a member of the X-Men.
Rogue’s only known name is Anna Marie and little is known about her past. Rogue is a self-described loner who avoids contact with others. She finally found a home at Xavier’s School for Gifted Students and has become a trusted member of the X-Men.
Powers and Abilities
Rouge has the ability to absorb the powers of other superhuman being. The affects are usually temporary and only happens with skin to skin touch. Rogue absorbs the memories and personality of those whose power she absorbs. When Rogue absorbs the powers of others, she can use them for a period of time. The length of contact determines the length Rogue can use the other person’s powers. The length of use is 60 times the length of the touch. For example, if Rogue touched a person for one minute, she would absorb their powers for one hour. Prolonged touch can remove the person’s powers permanently.
Rogue had a prolonged touch with Ms. Marvel and stole her powers on a permanent basis. Rogue gained a part of those abilities and used them as her own powers.
Rogue can fly other long distances and because of her strength she can use this ability to carry others over short distances. Rogue gained this ability from Ms. Marvel and it remains with her.
Rogue is invulnerable which means that she cannot be harmed by most conventional means. Rogue’s body is virtually indestructible and she can withstand a great deal of physical punishment.
Rogue became immune to most poisons and chemical compounds that might cause her harm. Her immunity also allows her to resist the extremes of heat and cold. Also Rogue is immune to illness and disease.
Strength, Agility and Endurance
Rogue absorbed the superhuman strength of Ms. Marvel and the enhanced agility of the Kree superhero. Rogue also has an amazing endurance that helps her to continue fighting when others have grown tired.
Rogue absorbed the memories of others and this does include their ability to fight. Rogue has been trained in a variety of hand to hand combat tactics by Wolverine and this is added to the memories and fighting abilities of others. Rogue is an incredible fighter and has amazing ability to defend herself.
Rogue had lost her powers in the third X-Men movie The Last Stand. Days of Future Past reversed the events of the third movie and Rogue is seen in Xavier’s school near the end of the film. There is a likelihood that Rogue will resurface in the upcoming film X-Men Apocalypse.
