Salon manicurists aren’t the only ones who can successfully apply stickers-you can too with a little know-how and some patience. A glitzy set of nail stickers can dress up both the finger and toenails but you probably already know haphazardly applying them isn’t a recipe for success. Before you work on your nails, prep them. Before you apply the decorations, gather your supplies, including stickers, clear nail polish, tweezers and an orange stick. Applying the stickers to your naked nails could damage them later. When you polish the fingernails first, you give the stickers something to adhere to and removal is so much easier.
Applying Stickers to Your Nails
Manicure your fingernails, filing and shaping them into a rounded or square round nail edge. Once you’ve got the nails prepared, apply a coat of nail varnish either clear or a complementary color. Allow your nails to dry completely before moving to the next step. Avoid touching or tapping on the wet nails.
Now remove the sticker from the sheet using a pair of tweezers, not your fingers. Without putting the sticker on the nail, position the sticker over the nail just the way you want it. If you have small fingernails, you may have to clip or trim the sticker for it to fit.
When you’re ready, you can press the nail sticker straight down on the nail, working from the cuticle, pressing it on all the way to the nail. For best results, the sticker should not have an bumps, creases or wrinkles.
With the slanted edge of the stick, pat the sticker down onto the nail. Press and continue to apply pressure for 2 to 3 seconds. This will give the sticker adhesive the chance to adhere to the paint.
Finish your artwork with a layer of clear topcoat. It’s like varnishing the stickers in place. Don’t use your swanky new fingertips until they’ve dried completely. If you have a beauty supply store nearby, consider purchasing some nail art sealer. If you use this product, you won’t need the top coat.
That’s it. This procedure does take a bit of time but the end result is gorgeous! You can try different nail art designs for holidays, special events or just whenever you like.
