Twenty years ago the trend was towards using formula to feed babies. Today it has moved back to the more natural way of feeding. This is known as breastfeeding. Unfortunately, mothers are forced to work outside the home and cannot take their babies with them for the regular feedings that they require. The solution to this is to express the breast milk and then use a breast milk storage system for use later.
Being a new mother in the workplace can be difficult. This is especially true the first few days after coming off of maternity leave. You will miss your baby and you will still have some hormonal imbalances that make you feel off kilter. You will also have breast milk leakage as this is the most productive time for producing breast milk.
One of the best ways to handle the breast milk situation is to pump it into breast milk storage bags or breast milk storage containers and then keeping it cold while you are at work. You can easily pump breast milk while you are in your office.
Many ladies may want to keep the door to their offices locked for this purpose. This will enable complete privacy while the milk is being expressed. You can pump directly in the storage bags or containers to make the move to the refrigerator or freezer that much easier and convenient.
If you do not have your own office, such as a call center where everyone just has a small cubicle to work from, you can speak to your employers about having a designated area for breast milk pumping. There may be an unused office that can do the trick for new moms. Many companies are recognizing this need and have already designated such an area.
In a last ditch attempt, you can always use the ladies room. This is not the most sanitary or hygienic place to get your breast milk pumped, but you will be assured of your privacy. Some ladies may simply go to their car at breaks and during lunch to avoid having to use the ladies room. You can move your car to a secluded spot away from the office like a park or empty lot elsewhere.
This milk can them be frozen and used by dad, the babysitter or daycare provider who is caring for your baby while you are at work. You can also use this milk for late night feedings when you do not want to get the pump out or when baby is too hungry to wait for you to pump your milk for them.
Breast milk storage is the best way to get your milk ready for baby to drink at any time. You can pump it while you are at work. If you work does not have a designated area, speak to your employers about making one available. When you are away from your baby, you can rest assured that they are benefiting from your breast milk.
