If your thinking about quitting your outside job and working from home, their are positive and negative things that you should think about before making the decision. Working from home can give you much more independence and time with your family, or it can be the opposite depending on what type of job you choice. Here are a few Pros and Cons from my own experience.
If you are going to get a job in Customer Service, check to see if its one you can do on your own time or if they set the hours. If you are going into a job that lets you work on your own time that is definitely a Pro. However, sometimes with jobs like these in Customer Service their are fewer hours if your looking to work full-time. If you choice a job that sets your hours, a Pro is that you will get a full 40 hours usually, and maybe even overtime. However, they usually give you a 12 hour window which you will work in. They may ask for you to be free to work for them for a 12 hour period, If you cant give up all that time that is something you should think about. Also when in production they ask that you be available and flexible for them, without needing anytime off. So in a that way, it can be more demanding than an outside job.
If you want to work from home because you have young children, and you want to spend more time with them. That may be possible depending on the company you choice. Again, if you are able to set you own hours and log in 24/7 that’s great, and it’s definitely a Pro. However, a Con is if you are only able to work certain hours when your kids are awake or running around. They ask that you have zero background noise, so you must have your kids quite during the times you are working. When you are on the phone you may not get a chance to be able to spend time with your kids while working if you are getting back to back calls. However, you can if the calls are not back to back, or you can on your break.
The pay of some Work From Home Customer Service Companies, is a lot less for customer service than if you were working on the outside. They usually start from minimum wage, to nine or ten dollars per hour. Some companies only pay by talk minute, usually ranging from 20 cents to 30 cents. So make sure you understand the pay before deciding to work from home. The Pro would be that you don’t have to spend money on gas or have to worry about getting to work in traffic. It’s a lot more convenient to just log onto your computer. Whatever you may choice, working from home can be great and rewarding as long as your okay with the requirements.
