As devastating as it is to say the final season of “Mad Men” is fast approaching, fans can’t help but wonder what surprises are coming in the last episodes. With an ever-evolving relationship, Peggy and Don have managed to keep it professional thus far. But one question that continues to linger is whether Peggy and Don still might engage in a romantic affair.
Fans may have to wait to find out, but here are three moments that Peggy and Don would have viewers believe there may be room for a P&D romance in the final season, which begins Sunday, April 13, 2014.
Moment #1: Season 2
Who can forget the touching moment Don first indicated deeper sentiment for Peggy? While Peggy is in the hospital – post her son’s birth and subsequent adoption — Don visits her and has a meaningful conversation, where he appears to be the only one who truly understands her situation. In this moment, Don is encouraging as a friend, but also makes viewers feel like there is something more to his presence than a ‘boss’ and ’employee’ relationship.
Moment #2: Season 4
In this lighter moment, Peggy and Don connect in a cute, borderline flirty way. They go out to dinner when Peggy has to work late and spend all night confessing intimate details of each other’s lives. Things get a little heavier when Peggy’s boyfriend finds her with Don and thinks something more is going on. After an altercation between Don and Duck, Peggy’s boyfriend, Peggy and Don fall asleep on the couch. Romantic? Perhaps just a result of drunken fatigue, but viewers get the sense there is potential for more down the road.
Moment #3: Season 6
Season 6 had viewers thinking Peggy and Don couldn’t get farther away from romance. The tension between them grew, but what’s a bigger indicator of impending romance than anger building passion between two people? Jealousy rears its head in this moment when Peggy is forced to choose between Don and Ted, the new guy that has stolen Peggy’s heart. Don thinks Ted doesn’t understand her the way he does, and the final episode leaves viewers wondering if Don is jealous of Ted as a professional threat, or a threat to his relationship with Peggy.
Not only would a little romance between Peggy and Don offer much needed release of the tension that has been hanging over them through the last six seasons, but it would also add a very unexpected surprise for the final season.
