Throughout season 6 of ‘The Voice’, Josh Kaufman has consistently put on great performance after great performance. While Josh was nearly kicked off of the show in the duet battles, he has proven himself to be a talented, unique singer with the ability to captivate the entire audience in the live shows. Josh Kaufman was so successful on this season of ‘The Voice’ for the following four reasons.
His soulful voice has a truly timeless quality
There has never been a question of Josh’s popularity among the coach’s panel and audience. He was a four chair turnaround artist who was stolen the one time he was dropped, and never had to sing for the instant save vote during the live shows. The reason for Josh’s popularity throughout the show is the timelessness of his voice. While Josh is 38 years old, the soulful quality of his voice allows him to appeal to a young, middle-aged, and older audience. Every time Josh sings, the entire audience gets goosebumps and chills from the intensity and sincerity of his performance.
He is an accurate technical singer
When Adam dropped Josh from his team it was not because he made any major musical mistakes. He was merely more captivated by the energy and liveliness of Delvin’s performance than Josh’s laidback performance. Throughout the entire competition, Josh has consistently been a phenomenal technical singer with little to no pitch or tone quality issues. He therefore proved himself to be a very experienced singer with great voice control and precision.
He is extremely likable
Unlike many emerging male musicians, Josh is not interested in the money and girls that come with fame. Instead, he has a much more modest goal in mind–to sufficiently support his wife and three kids while doing the thing he loves the most. Prior to the show, Josh made a living as an SAT tutor and gigging musician. The audience was quickly drawn in by Josh’s story, and have been rooting for this likable family man from the start.
Usher took him under his wing
While Josh was clearly an R&B artist before joining Team Usher, Usher helped him embrace the soulfulness of his voice through song selection, dramatic staging, and stripped down versions of popular tunes. Since Usher and Josh are such similar musicians in sound and style, being dropped from Team Adam was one of the best things to happen for Josh and his artistic development. Since Usher lost the 2 other members of his team early on in the live shows, he was able to focus his full attention on Josh. This extra attention allowed Usher to mold Josh into the phenomenal R&B artist he is today, while also maintaining his musical individuality.
