Going to a movie theater is a genuine experience if you are not an avid movie watcher, but for those who attend movies regularly at the theater, you start to see the evil side. I am an avid movie watcher, and I have come to realize that avoiding the theater leaves you better off. These are the reasons I won’t attend a movie at a theater.
Firstly, and perhaps most obviously, is the ticket prices. Tickets at a movie theater are constantly and consistently increasing with some ticket prices reaching the $20 mark. That price is steep, especially considering you don’t even know if you’re going to enjoy the movie or not. Add on a 3D fee that many movies come with and you could be paying $15-25 to sit through a 2 hour movie that might not even be very good. Now that isn’t to suggest that movies are bad. Movies are great, but what is the point in paying so much for a movie that will be selling for $10 at Walmart a few months later? I see no point here, but it is no surprise movie theaters do well. Patience in today’s society is short and seeing a movie in a theater and being the first of your friends to see a movie appeals to many people today.
Ah, people. The second reason movie theaters need to be avoided. Rude, inconsiderate, and obnoxious are all adjectives that can describe many movie viewers. With smartphones in nearly everyone’s pocket, it is certainly not uncommon to see someone whip out their phone in the middle of the movie. While they may not be talking on it, it is definitely a nuisance to see the phone light out of the corner of your eye. But the phone isn’t the worst part about people in a movie. In every movie I have ever attended, there has been a talker. The person in a movie who cannot shut up throughout the whole thing. Not only does it distract you during the movie, it just makes you angry. No one likes the talker.
Movie theaters are fun, but they’re a novelty experience. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration and just avoid the theater. You’ll be thanking yourself in the long run when you rent a movie that you can enjoy in the company of your friends and family.
