I’m not vegan, but many of my friends are, both by choice and dietary necessity. I have gluten-intolerant friends, friends allergic to various things from nuts to peppers, and friends who have simply chosen a vegan lifestyle. Finding places where we can eat out together can be tricky, but when we find a place we like, that makes it all the more a treasure. Here are some of our favorite places that fit the bill for all our dietary needs.

Mellow Mushroom is a great choice for pizza! In addition to the usual mushroom and veggies, topping options include tofu and tempeh, as well a gluten-free pizza options. They also offer a great selection of appetizers. I highly recommend the Stuffed Portobella Mushroom!
2417 Nicholasville Rd 859-373-8269
Open Sunday-Thursday, 11:00am-9:30pm Friday-Saturday: 11:00am-10:00pm
This is favorite of ours for after Roller Derby bouts, because Planet Thai is open late! Lots of options for many diet types, and the staff is always careful with concerns about pepper content or vegan standards.
Stella’s Kentucky Deli

Open everyday 10:30am-4pm (lunch) Wed-Sun 5pm-9pm (dinner) Sat & Sun 10:00 am-2pm (brunch)
Another great restaurant using local ingredients, Stella’s is a great stop for lunch. Vegan options are clearly well thought out, with strong flavor profiles that are complimented by their large selection of house-made sodas. A great stop to get a good taste of what Kentucky has to offer.
868B High St (at Euclid in Shoppers Village) 859-269-6440
Open Mon-Sat 11:00am-8:00pm, buffet served til 3pm
Middle Eastern food at its finest! Our group eats at the Oasis two or three times a month. I often get the vegetarian Moujadara (lentils and rice), though I also enjoy the buffet on weekends.
Third Street Stuff and Coffee
257 N Limestone 859-255-5301
Open Mon.-Sat., 6:30am-11pm; Sun., 8am-11 pm
Our favorite by frequency for sure, we meet at Third Street for dessert, coffee, and knitting at least once a week. Staff is super friendly and accommodating, and always willing to take any special dietary needs into account. Third Street offers sandwiches and veggies plates, locally baked breads and desserts, and of course, coffee and drinks.
