The year 2010 is one of the most memorable years in my life. It was my first time to travel to the football world cup. I had not envisaged that this would turn to be amongst the most adventurers’ journeys I have ever taken in my life.
The world cup then was taking place in the republic of South Africa. I prepared for the journey well in advance. I had to secure the tickets first, identify the various stadiums on which team USA had been scheduled to play various matches and also take note of the dates. I obtained my tickets through Travel agents; they are well versed with these kind developments and will even book you into the best hotels in these countries.
I arrived in South Africa two days before the commencement of the world cup. I was able to attend the maiden ceremony. The ceremony is graced by world famous artists and sportsmen. All the participating teams in the world cup are present during the ceremony. The stadium becomes the most colorful place to be. With numerous exciting activities happening, from live performances to magic plays. It was such a day! I was almost forgetting about the matches!
Attending the world cup actually not only provided me with an opportunity to interact with people of different nationalities but also exposed me to different cultures; especially the culture of the host nation was abler to learn a lot the bushmen from South Africa, it was very surprising that this people live in forest together with all sorts of animals but suffer no harm. They have adapted into the jungle life completely, I was made to understand that they actually can not survive in the cities because the food and life in the city is like poison to them!
Since there are days when the matches are never played, I would use those days to tour the various national geographical features in South Africa. Attending the world cup will also give you an opportunity to enjoy the flora and fauna in the host countries. Those who will be in Brazil must take that as an opportunity to go and explore the world famous Amazon forest. The forest is home to a number of wild animals. In fact, there is a stadium, Estadio de Amazonia, which is located inside the forest. Talking from my time in South Africa, watching these animals in their natural setting is an unrivaled kind of feeling. You might even get an opportunity to watch them ferociously run after they prey!
I will not be traveling to Brazil because of reason beyond my control but advice everyone with time and means not to fail go for the world cup. It is not just about football!
