There is no doubt that the football world cup is the most fascinating football experience in the world watched by millions across the continents. The games are played every four years pitting teams from different countries and continent. This year, the games will be held across twelve stadiums in Brazil. From my personal experience, this is what its like to attend the world cup.
The world cup games are played for a whole month. There are many games involved; the teams are initially grouped into eight groups, each group having four teams. The first two teams in each group get to the next stage which is normally referred to the “last sixteen” before moving to the quarters, semis and finals. Therefore, if one needs to watch the games from the group stages, it is important to take a whole month vacation.Getting the tickets is a very easy undertaking, simply liaise with your travel agents.
Attending the world cup was one of the most memorable moments in my life. I first attended world cup games in 2010 when they were hosted in the Republic of South Africa. The traveling involves a lot of adventure, not only do you get to watch the beautiful game of football but also the alluring natural features and wild animals in these different countries and continents. During the day when matches were not being played, I would use this time to tour South Africa and get to familiarize with the flora and fauna in the country. It was such an experience!
Once you land in these countries hosting the world cup, you also get the opportunity to enjoy their food. I realized South Africa has very tasty traditional meals which I had never thought were edible. Again, the cultures of these people were very attractive, especially getting the opportunity to learn the culture of the Bushmen was extremely fascinating. The Bushmen live in the forests and can actually communicate with animals. They have learnt through adaptation how to handle wild animals, including the most lethal of them all; the lion.
Apart from that, there are thirty two national teams that qualify for the world cup games. A sizable number of nationals, who have their national teams playing, attend to cheer their teams. There is therefore a lot of cultural interaction as a result. If you want to realize the friendliest cultural interactions without any form of xenophobia, attend the world cup! People are generally very friendly and jovial. Indeed, sports should be embraced as a vital tool in forming unity amongst people! Let’s brace for Brazil 2014 as we wish team USA well.
