I’ve spent the sum of my life riding the weight loss coaster. At the top, I feel inflated and uncomfortable. At the bottom, I feel fit and free. But the ride doesn’t end, and back up I go. Little did I know that when I put a small pool in my backyard, I had just serendipitously stumbled upon my ideal weight loss program. Yes, after decades on a quest to find the best plan for my lifestyle, body type, and let’s face it, love of food, I finally found my perfect equation: Weight Watchers + water workouts = bye-bye fat!
After I had tried just about every ridiculous weight loss program out there, I finally came to my senses and went back to the diet that had worked for me in the past, Weight Watchers . With its emphasis on moderation over deprivation, I still find this plan to be the most effective way to take weight off and keep it off. With Weight Watchers, I can still eat what I want, but of course, just like all diets, I can’t eat as much as I want. Regardless of the lies we’re being told, there isn’t a diet out there that allows us to eat as much as we want. In fact, if there’s somebody peddling a diet who says, “I actually ate more food on this diet than I was eating before!” … watch out!! They also may try to convince you that you’ve won $10 million.
Next, I had a pool installed. Nothing fancy. It was the smallest above-ground pool the company installed … just 15 feet around. Now, don’t fret if you can’t put in a pool. There is probably an affordable gym, YMCA, neighborhood club, or even a school near you with an indoor pool that’s open to the public. I’ve found that they always designate a lane for people who want to walk or jog in the pool.
I started my workout program by spending just 10-15 minutes four days a week walking/jogging in the pool to music. And, truthfully, I thought I was doing no good at all, because it was fun and easy! Before long, though, my clothes were fitting more loosely. In less than a month, the next size down fit … and my energy level was soaring! Plus, walking in the pool is something almost anyone can do, since it is easy on the joints. I even found that my joints felt better after my workouts than before.
So, I continued this program … Weight Watchers and 15 minutes 4-5 times a week walking/jogging in the pool. In another month, I was down another dress size! Just five months after I started, I had dropped four dress sizes and more than 40 pounds! For the first time in my life, because working out in water is both an aerobic and a resistance, or strength training, workout, I actually had muscle definition in my legs. This truly is, I believe, the best weight loss program ever. Because no food is off limits on Weight Watchers , the dieting part was relatively painless … and the exercise part really was fun! How many weight loss programs can say that?!
