This past weekend saw Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 destroy the competition grossing 92 million. Here is a list of the top ten from May 2nd-4th as given by Box Office Mojo:
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 — $92,000,000
The Other Woman — $14,200,000
Heaven is for Real — $8,700,000
Captain America: The Winter Soldier — $7,762,000
Rio 2 — $7,600,000
Brick Mansions — $3,545,000
Divergent — $2,175,000
The Quiet Ones — $2,000,000
God’s Not Dead — $1,769,000
The Grand Budapest Hotel — $1,735,000
It was definitely an incredible debut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. I haven’t seen it yet, but definitely plan on watching it in the near-future. Early reports are that it was still not up to the standards of the previous Spider-Man series with Tobey Maguire, while being an upgrade over The Amazing Spider-Man. I expect the tandem of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone to be enough to make this a must-see. It gets a MUST-SEE label.
The Other Woman also saw another solid week in theatres in raising its cumulative gross sales to $47.3 million. The talented cast featuring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton came in at number two this weekend. This film could have easily been much better based on the quality of acting, but falls below its overall potential. However, with Diaz and Mann together, it’s worth checking out.
Another movie in the top 10 worth checking out is Brick Mansions. Particularly for any Paul Walker fans, this movie offers plenty of action. However, it does suffer from lack of creativity and will no doubt get knocked for that aspect.
Divergent raised its cumulative grossing to $142.6 Million with another top 10 showing. The action-adventure movie has an exciting and unique plot featuring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet.
What to See
If you are looking to check out a movie this week, I would recommend seeing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or The Other Woman. Each movie has large differences and will keep you into the movie all the way through. Spider-Man grows upon the classic story featured in previous films and provides plenty of punch with up-and-coming actor Andrew Garfield. Meanwhile, The Other Woman will keep you laughing all the way through with Leslie Mann and Cameron Diaz. At the same time, you’ll see Nicki Minaj and Kate Upton in a rather new environment for them.
Looking Ahead
As we begin to enter the summer movie season, many blockbusters will make their way onto the screens. Some coming up include Godzilla and Million Dollar Arm set to be released on May 16th.
