Marker and stencil or stickers
A signature book has always been a cherished keepsake from a wedding but isn’t it time that we update that tradition? Sure, a newly married couple cherishes the signature book with the names of all of the wedding guests. But the book isn’t something that is easily displayed. Most any couple just puts the book somewhere in a drawer, or in a box, and saves it. Something much nicer than that is a set of wedding signatures that can actually be on display at your house. A signature keepsake box, you’ll find, is much more suitable than a signature book.
Do a modern take on the old, signature book tradition by replacing the book with a box. A shadow box is the perfect choice; it is similar to a picture frame but deeper. When you shop for the shadow box, bypass the ones that feature little compartments inside the box, and opt for one where the whole box is one compartment. This type of shadow box makes a lovely wedding guest signature piece that can hang on a wall for display.
Purchase small paper hearts – or punch them yourself – and use them as the signature papers. Set up a table that would normally hold a signature book, but instead, put the signature box items in place. Lay the paper hearts out and offer pens for the signatures. You can make a small sign that says “Please sign a keepsake heart”, or something like that, and place a bowl or other small container on the table to collect the signed hearts.
When you’re ready to do the shadow box, place all of the hearts inside, and close the box. On the front glass, write what you want, using a marker and stencils, a freehand style, or even stickers. It’s up to you if you design the glass, and feature the shadow box on the signature table at the wedding, or if you simply collect the signed hearts, and put it all together at a future date.
It’s fun to invite others over to your new house after getting married, but when your guests show up, you won’t have to go get the signature book, and show it off. Instead, take your guests to the wall where you have mounted the shadow box and let them see your beautiful keepsake in a much more beautiful – and modern – arrangement.
