Reno, Nevada, is in a process of change, at least that is the idea and how the locals see it. Most known for gambling and being the “Biggest Little City in the World,” most of the restaurants here are chains, fast-food or just random diners. There is very little in the way of vegan restaurants, but that does seem to be changing lately. Most of the restaurants I’ve found that pop up when you search in Reno are not completely vegan, but there are a couple that have a large vegan selection. Here are a few I would recommend.
The Seed Cafe
1085 S. Virginia St.
The only all-vegan restaurant I could find in Reno, attached to a yoga studio and clothing store, just opened in August of 2013. The vibe is very relaxed and since it is located downstairs from the yoga studio, many yogis come in for a quick bite after their classes. The Mock Tuna Sandwich is a great mini meal, and the Pho is packed with flavor and was simply amazing. Top off the meal with one of their organic superfood smoothies like the Java Mukti. After you enjoy your food, browse their selection of cute yoga attire. The Seed Cafe is located at 1085 S. Virginia St. in the same building as the Spy Shop.
Great Full Gardens
555 S. Virginia St.
This restaurant is addicting. The food is amazing and the staff is always incredibly friendly and accommodating. While not purely vegan, they have more vegan options than The Seed Cafe. All of their food is organic and, when possible, from local sources. Their Veghead Sandwich is unreal, loaded with the perfect combination of veggies and a pesto aioli, and the Great Full Vegan Burger is a must (both are great with Quinoa Salad). They also have daily soup specials like sweet potato and tomato bisque which you should never pass up. They are located in Midtown Reno at 555 S. Virginia St. right next to Batch Cupcakery. There is also a second location called Pathway Cafe in the University of Reno campus.
501 West 1st St
A hard-to-find gem in the Northwest Midtown area is full of flavor. The staff seemed to enjoy their jobs and was extremely helpful and laid-back. The Pasta Pesto was a seemingly simple vegan option, but was loaded with flavor; the Grilled Slab Tacos are so amazing I forgot I was eating tofu. Try any dish with a fresh juice like the Arcanum for a perfect meal. Located at 501 W. 1st St., parking is located on the corner of Ralston and W. 1st St. and the restaurant has a separate entrance on the corner leading to their second floor location in the Truckee River Terrace apartment building.
