I love versatility in all things, especially if the things I own multi-task without too much trouble. One friend of mine has a landscaping business and has “hinted” that he wanted to find a travel trailer for his family’s summer camping trips. Unfortunately, his business needs a new utility trailer; he can’t afford both.
I offered to do a little research and see what I could find that could help him fill both needs. I knew I had seen “something” online, and after a little searching, found several utility trailer/tent campers on the market.
All he has to do now is pick one that offers his family and business the most utility within his budget.
Prices vary by the size of the tent/trailer, manufacturer and other details such as the size of tires and beds. The tents attach to the trailer frame, eliminating the need for ground stakes. Sleepers are off the ground and comfortable. Most are shipped in pieces, requiring assembly on arrival.
I’ll share the list with you:
Little Giant TreeHaus Camper Tent And Utility Trailer
When set up, the tent offers 6’10” of interior height and is 7′ long, 8’5″ wide. Four people, one on each bed and two on the floor can sleep comfortably. The utility trailer’s sides fold down to create the beds, which is standard on most trailer/tent campers. The dome tent top ensures maximum headroom while rain runs down outside.
Lifetime Deluxe Tent Trailer Kit
This tent offers a 7′ tall interior ceiling and the trailer sides fold down to create twin beds on either side. The floor is queen-sized, allowing four to six people a place to sleep comfortably. Extensions to create larger beds are offered by the company.
One unique feature of this tent is having both front and back doors as well as screened windows with zippered flaps for rain and wind protection.
The trailer floor is 7′ long and 5′ wide. When the front and back gates are lowered, the length measures nearly 9.5.’
Jumping Jack Trailer Utility Tent Trailer
This trailer bed measures 7.6″ wide and 12′ long. The tent is heavy marine canvas, meaning it is going to wear like iron and keep you and your family comfortable. Four to six people can sleep comfortably inside as the sides fold down to create two twin beds. Three inch mattresses are included, as is an interior fold-up table measuring 32″ wide and 44″ long.
Accessories are also available to make your camping experience even more enjoyable, including a kitchenette top, lantern post, bed extension(s) for either side and an awning.
Of course, the least expensive option for many handy DIY’ers is to study pictures of camper/tent utility trailers and to build one. Begin with a good utility trailer and add foldable sides. A fold-down front/back grate will create more interior space; add removable stabilizer bars to keep the beds and utility space from sagging.
PVC or aluminum conduit can be used to create the interior or exterior frame for the tent. An experienced seamstress (one with experience creating or sewing outdoor gear) can take measurements and put together a tent using sturdy, waterproof and UV-resistant fabric.
Before hiring seamstresses or professionals to build a camper trailer, research prices and decide which option is best for you. Of course, DIY allows the most versatility in customizing the perfect utility trailer and tent for your needs.
