The eighth largest city in the United States and second-largest in California, San Diego is among the fastest growing cities in the nation. This is where it all began, the birth place of California and as I know it, home of the United States Navy where my son spent much of his time when he was not deployed.
During the summer months when many people have time off work and the kids are out of school, there are many activities that you can participate in. Here are some upcoming events in San Diego that you might enjoy this summer.

This annual event is always a greatly anticipated event by many. This is actually the largest fair of all fairs that take place in California. Offering the usual and unique food, exhibits, rides & games, entertainment throughout the historic fairgrounds where you can enjoy your visit in the oceanfront village of Del Mar. This year the fair will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles first visit to the United States.
2014 Annual Over The Line Tourney -When: July 12-20, 2014 Price: Free, Where: Fiesta Island, Mission Bay Park. This is the original beach softball event that takes place in San Diego. The event is played by both men and women whose ages go well into their 80’s. This is a great family event that takes place once a year in San Diego. Offering a free Kid’s Zone as well as free parking makes this all the more enticing to attend. They offer a variety of amusements, educational displays, rides, a Beer Garden and a variety of food and beverages. What does this all add up to? A great way to spend a summer weekend for everyone.

Matthew Barbutt will be the conductor with Sean Chen on the piano for this Piano Concerto No. 1 where they will salute the music of various Hungarian composers:

- Zoltan Kodaly
- Franz Lehar
- Bela Bartok
The Franz Liszt’s First Piano Concerto will be performed by the 2013 Van Cliburn Bronze Medalist Sean Chen. For those of you who have not experienced this type of music, this is a great opportunity to do so.
