Facebook took over everything on the internet on February 4th, 2004. This was the next “big thing.” Soon, everyone was asking each other if they had Facebook or not, and to send them a friend request. Now Twitter is the top dog on social networking sites even though many people still use Facebook and a daily basis. Twitter was created in July 2006. It doesn’t seem like it was as popular as Facebook to start off with, or maybe I just didn’t hear anything about it until 1 or 2 years after it was created. There are problems with both websites and good things about them too.
Twitter has more bad than good I think. I use twitter more than Facebook now. But twitter has the 140 character count on tweets and messages. This is a bad idea because if someone really wants to tell everyone about what they are doing but only get 140 characters, many people just won’t tweet it. Or, they will screenshot it and then tweet a picture of what they wished to tweet. People find a way around everything and this is one of them. In messages it’s also bad because if you’re talking to someone (and we all sometimes send really long texts or messages) you have to send multiple messages to get your point across. The last thing that I don’t like about twitter is DM’s. You have to be following the person and the person has to be following you in order to have a conversation. There should be an option like on Facebook where everyone can message you, or only followers can. Celebrities of course would have only followers turned on, but then you can just tweet at them. Some people would much rather private message a person for a conversation than tweet at them. The good thing about twitter is you can see what your favorite celebrities or people are doing, and you can have multiple accounts which are easy to access.
Twitter and Facebook for sure have their differences, and it just depends on you to decide which one you like better. I like twitter better even though it has more problems.
