Crime stories sometimes come with a twist. Most of the time, it’s a terrible one, one you’d rather the story didn’t have. In some cases, though, there’s a twist so unusual, it’s tough to resist. Here are five crime twists that could have gone the other way.
Watching Sleeping Baby
During a nighttime burglary, security cameras in the home of Houston, TX resident Thinh Le caught a burglar in the act, making his way through the home. Most disturbingly, they showed him it the Les’ toddlers’ bedroom, prowling around. According to police, at one point the baby actually sees the burglar, but goes back to sleep. That will get you to put an extra lock on the door.
When his iPhone was stolen in China after an alcohol-filled bachelor party, Zou Bin sent texts to his own phone telling the thief not only would he find him, but he would see, from the contacts in the phone, how important he was and who he knows. While the thief didn’t return the phone, he did send Zou package containing a list of all 1000 of his contacts, painstakingly written out by hand.
A nurse in Brighton, England, Eileen Remedios, was saddened to discover her bicycle missing after visiting a patient. So she posted a note on a lamppost, asking the thief to return it. The best part? The thief actually did, leaving his or her own note of apology and declaring himself a “reformed bike theif [sic].” Now that’s a tale of bad gone good.
Burglar Busts Child Sex Abuse
Speaking of bad gone good, a burglar in Spain contacted authorities anonymously after finding videotaped evidence of child sexual abuse. After discovering what he had, he placed the videos in a package and told police where to find them. The 64-year-old pedophilia suspect, who was a children’s sports coach, had reported the burglary to police but hadn’t mentioned the missing videos. The alleged burglar later turned himself in.
Kojek Mista, an alleged armed robber who entered a home in Indonesia with four accomplices, interrupted his crime when the homeowner’s baby started to cry. Mista, after instructions from the baby’s mother, mixed some baby formula, fed the baby and held him until he fell asleep, claiming he did so because he is a father. He is also looking at up to 10 years in prison.
