Travel can be a daunting prospect. I understand how it feels to want a family or business trip to just be right. Do you know where/what/when? Curious about your options? Are you looking for something basic or unique? There’s a lot to consider, especially if you aren’t familiar with the various aspects of travel. This is why many people choose to go through a travel agent. Going through someone whose profession is travel means peace of mind for you, which makes it easier to simply enjoy your vacation.
It’s the little things
My clients like the fact that I’m accessible to them during travel; it’s one of the main reasons people book through agencies. If there are any problems – from trouble at a ticket counter to weather delaying a flight – I’m one call away. If I can’t solve a problem I know who to ask and what to ask. Agencies have a seen-it-all advantage for their clients – if I haven’t been to or worked with your destination before, my co-workers have. This means we’re able to give in-depth advice on where to go and what to see. Unlike the internet, we have a personal interest in you having a wonderful time.
I get to see some pretty cool things because of my job. Sure, I can get the best deal on Disneyland/world, Hawaii, the usual, but the things I get really excited about are those unique finds. ‘Glamping’ with a personal butler on a luxury resort. Helicopter hunting in New Zealand. Exotic cruises. Safaris. Castle accommodations in Europe. When it comes to travel, there’s a world of options. An advantage to working with a travel agent is that we have the inside track on the unusual along with the usual.
Read your travel details
There are some things that your agent will tell you that I’m going to go ahead and re-stress. First of all READ EVERYTHING. You may think that once your documents are in hand that you’re good to go, but your documents provide instruction on where to check-in, pick-up, etc. Simply reading through your package details can save some frantic searching and misunderstandings. I can’t count how many times I’ve had customers call in because they weren’t aware of something spelled out in the documents. While I don’t mind reiterating the writing, neither parties like unnecessary worry.
This an option that’s up to you. I tend to recommend it, since it covers you in case of weather, family emergency, or a bad reading on the horoscope. It should be offered to you, but make a point of asking for it before payment.
