Less than 24 hours away from WrestleMania XXX, I attended the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony in New Orleans. With WrestleMania taking place in my hometown, I took full advantage of what the WWE had to offer for pro wrestling fans. I would have attended the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony regardless, but with Jake Roberts and Razor Ramon being inducted, this was an event I had to see in person. Take a closer look at the top five moments from the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony.
5. Kliq reunion
Although I was excited to see Razor Ramon join the WWE Hall of Fame, the induction of “Razor Ramon” and not “Scott Hall” made me feel like I was watching part one of a two-part story. But he looked great, which is all that matters. However, what I enjoyed most was seeing a real reunion of the legendary WWE stable known as The Kliq. Most reunions usually lack one or two members, but the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony saw a true Kliq reunion.
4. Bad News Barrett
The WWE had a few surprises for its 2014 Hall of Fame ceremony and this was one of the best. You never know what gimmicks will catch on in pro wrestling, but for some reason, fans love it when Wade Barrett delivers bad news. The New Orleans Smoothie King Center erupted what Barrett’s music hit at the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. His bad news was that this was the closest WWE fans in attendance would ever come to being in the Hall of Fame.
3. Mr. T’s “mother” speech
I was never a fan of Mr. T’s work in wrestling, so I wasn’t too excited about seeing him join the WWE Hall of Fame. However, he certainly delivered one of the most memorable induction speeches in WWE history. Instead of reflecting on his time with Hulk Hogan and feuding with Roddy Piper, Mr. T talked about his mother for a half-hour. The fans in attendance even started chanting, “What?” and “This is awesome!” Finally, Kane (not a cane) got Mr. T off the stage.
2. DDP and Jake Roberts
I guess making Ultimate Warrior the main attraction was the least the WWE could do for him after his ill-fated DVD. However, Jake Roberts was the main reason I bought a ticket to see the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony in person. Before Roberts came out, Diamond Dallas Page gave an outstanding induction speech. When Roberts finally did appear, it quickly became apparent that he is still better on the mic than anyone else in the wrestling business.
1. Undertaker pays tribute to Paul Bearer
Most wrestling fans know that The Undertaker has never shown up at a WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. However, if there were ever a time for The Undertaker to make an appearance it would be the year that his late manager, Paul Bearer, was inducted. As Paul Bearer’s sons were exiting, The Undertaker’s music hit and fog engulfed the stage. I had chills as The Undertaker walked out, got down on one knee, and held up the urn in tribute to Paul Bearer.
