Having the correct makeup brush and knowing how and when to use it is vital. When fifty and older, having the correct makeup brush is imperative to the appearance of a flawless complexion (as much as possible) in the makeup process. Using each brush correctly will almost certainly guarantee a flawless makeup job.
As we mature, applying makeup requires an expertise distinctly different from our younger years. The look for mature women requires use of less makeup with a more defined effort.
During my recent visit to my gynecologist for my yearly checkup, I received the sweetest compliment. Most females procrastinate this particular checkup. It is not one of the things we love to do. However, I digress, while there, the assistant checking patients in who has been with him through all my visits over the years, greeted me asking if I ever age. She complimented me with her first words, stating “Well hello movie star.”
Now, I have no problem being greeted this way as I take very good care of myself and pride myself on having aged gracefully. However, I do still adhere to a very careful makeup regimen. My makeup brushes are vital in that regime. Some of us can do without makeup. I myself am one of those who will not leave home without it.
It’s not required that you spend an excessive amount on your makeup brushes, but if you have it, spend as much as possible to get the best your purse can afford. Make sure to keep them clean and replace them before they appear worn. Brushes used around the eyes and lips should be replaced immediately if you suffer with allergies or after any major illness.
*Powder Brush* If you’re going to wear makeup, there has to be a powder brush on your vanity. A powder brush is imperative in your makeup brush wardrobe. Never leave home without it. A powder brush in more than one size is something I tend to find necessary. However some say they are fine with a one size fits all. If you feel the same, make it ‘Large.’
*Lip Brush* A lip brush is imperative in making sure you line your lips properly, drawing the first line around the edge to define the curvature of the lips. As we age, this bordering silhouette sometimes becomes a bit elusive. First draw the area by using a lip liner. Next use the lip brush to brush in a darker tone of lip color. After the darker shade is added, then add a lighter shade to the interior of the lips. For some, this gives you what some males say are luscious lips.
*Eyeliner Brush* Use your eyeliner brush to perfect those gorgeous eyes. Yes, I said gorgeous because even after fifty, we can still have gorgeous eyes with or without eye surgery. And if you are someone like me, surgery is not an option. Purchase a good eyeliner brush. Gently use it on the line drawn under and above the eyes to blend in the liner and remove any excess.
*Eyebrow Brush* If you find those eye brows moving a little astray after waking from your nap or overnight, there is a brush just for that purpose. An eyebrow brush is available to brush your brows back into place. After applying or even before applying the final touches to your makeup, take you brow brush and brush the hairs back or at night, brush them to remove all dead hairs or to exfoliate the dead skin underneath. Some of these are available with a brush on one side and comb on the other.
*Foundation Brush* When applying cream foundation and the fingers just do not provide the results desired, try a foundation brush. With a light brush to pick up a small amount, a foundation brush is designed to apply your makeup with flawless coverage (when purchasing the right brand). If you haven’t tried one, and you find your fingers are not providing the look your desire, visit a makeup counter at your favorite store and test a few.
*Concealer Brush* We all have those little imperfections that need to be concealed. There’s always a small spot that kind of appears overnight. You go to bed one night with two spots but wake up with three. That’s one of the issues with ageing. We have no control over it. But we can hide the spots as they appear. The concealer brush with a dab of concealer and then foundation will take are of that spot in no time and only you and the Lord know.
*Angled Brush* If you wear eye shadow. I buried all of mine years ago) but some of us still like a very minute bit here and there, now and then, add an Angle Brush to your makeup wardrobe of brushes. It’s a must have when you need to get the color into those spots at the end of the eyes looking perfect. The fingers just will not work any longer. You can try the brushes with the little cotton or sponge tips, but they are not the best for getting the polished look.
*Blusher* There’s always the occasion when a bit of color in addition to the regular eye shadow and lip color is desired: at a party or special event. When you need an added bit of color to the cheeks, nothing compares to a blusher. Add a bit of bronzer to your cheeks and even a smidgen to your temples. It says volumes about you; “The Sophisticated Female.” Enjoy the compliments.
*Eye Shadow Brush* Even if some have sent eye shadow to it’s grave, there are others who still enjoy their eye shadow and wear it very well and proudly. It’s all about ‘choice.’ If you still wear eye shadow, it’s important to have a good brush for expert application. Retail brushes sold with your shadow are not the best. Invest in a good eye shadow brush to make sure your shadow is applied like the stars.
*Lip Primer Brush* I call this a lip primer brush as I use it for my lip primer which keeps my lips moist and glowing. However, some may call it a lip gloss or miscellaneous brush. It is a brush you use in your makeup regime for anything necessary. It can be used to dab on the acne med (yes, at fifty and older some of us still have acne), to remove the makeup from around the eyes or anything you feel its needed.
As you get more into makeup brushes, you will discover some are multi purpose brushes and can be used for a series of makeup task. Check the bristles and soon you’ll see where the brush will work for a need.
