Liam Neeson, who was born in 1952 in Northern Ireland, has received numerous nominations for his talented acting during his prolific career.
Here are the top 10 best Liam Neeson movies:
Top 10 Best Liam Neeson Movies #10: The Lego Movie (2014)
The Irish actor did not have the biggest role in the animated film The Lego Movie, but he did help make the movie great. In the movie, Neeson played a police officer with multiple personalities. In fact, the police officer he played had moments in the film of either being a good or bad cop. I listed this movie as one of the top 10 best Liam Neeson movies because the well-known actor added an extra dimension.
Top 10 Best Liam Neeson Movies #9: Husbands and Wives (1992)
The highest rated movie that has featured Liam Neeson, according to Rotten Tomatoes, is Husbands and Wives. I could have listed it higher on this list, but chose not to. Many talented actors are in the film, not just the legendary actor. Moreover, the following actors help make this picture great: Woody Allen, Blythe Danner, Judy Davis, Mia Farrow and Juliette Lewis. I believe Neeson shows his great acting skills in the film, but he did not have a lot of screen time. On a side note, Husbands and Wives received two Oscar nominations, including one for the performance by Judy Davis.
Top 10 Best Liam Neeson Movies #8: The Grey (2011)
Neeson had one of his best roles in the 2011 film The Grey. This picture is on this list of the top 10 best Liam Neeson movies for two reasons: he did a superb job in a leading role, and the movie received positive reviews. Like all of his films, it is worth watching.
Top 10 Best Liam Neeson Movies #7: Rob Roy (1995)
It could be argued that many actors help make Rob Roy great. I mean, it had a great cast. Along with the 61-year-old actor, five other well-known actors were casted. These five actors are Jessica Lange, John Hurt, Tim Roth, Eric Stoltz, and Brian Cox. Neeson, however, played the titular character and his performance helped launch his career.
Top 10 Best Liam Neeson Movies #6: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999)
Both Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor were superb in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Neeson played Qui-Gon Jinn, who was a Jedi Master and mentor to Obi-Wan, played by McGregor. In my opinion, it is unfortunate that the Irish actor did not have a role in other Star Wars movies as he was phenomenal as a Jedi Master.
Top 10 Best Liam Neeson Movies #5: Five Minutes of Heaven (2009)
I could not think of a better position on this list for the film Five Minutes of Heaven. Alongside James Nesbitt, another actor from Northern Ireland, the two actors make Five Minutes of Heaven one to watch. Film critics gave it a positive review. In the words of Michael Dwyer of The Irish Times, “Nesbitt vividly portrays Griffin as a man still coiled with rage and horror by indelible memories of a living nightmare when he was a boy. And Neeson’s haunted features reveal the guilt and pain Little has carried since he committed his terrible crime.” For those who have never heard of this movie, you are not alone. It had a limited release in 2009, and only made $87,906 at the box office. Nevertheless, it is one that is captivating and worth watching on Netflix.
Top 10 Best Liam Neeson Movies #4: Taken (2008)
Three of the next four movies feature Neeson in a prominent role and had great success at the box office. The film Taken showed that, although the Hollywood star is aging, he still can deliver a knockout on the big screen. In the movie, he plays an American father of a young woman who is kidnapped overseas. Taken only had a budget of $25 million, but made an outstanding profit. At the box office, it reeled in over $225 million.
Top 10 Best Liam Neeson Movies #3: Kinsey (2004)
Kinsey only made $16,918,723 at the box office, but its budget was only $11 million. As for Neeson’s role, he was the leading actor, playing the American biologist Alfred Kinsey. The controversial film received great reviews from critics, and Neeson received a Golden Globe nomination for his role.
Top 10 Best Liam Neeson Movies #2: Michael Collins (1996)
Michael Collins, which also was a profitable film, features the legendary Irish actor as the Irish revolutionist Michael Collins. It is a deep movie that requires some reading of the Irish Civil War before watching, but Neeson’s acting and the storyline were superb.
Top 10 Best Liam Neeson Movies #1: Schindler’s List (1993)
The 1993 blockbuster Schindler’s List, which is as depressing to watch as Michael Collins, is the best Liam Neeson movie. Neeson received an Academy Award nomination for his performance as Oskar Schindler, who helped save Jews from the Holocaust while struggling from alcoholism. In my opinion, it was a shame that he did win an Oscar for his portrayal. On a side note, Tom Hanks won the Oscar for his performance in Philadelphia.
I hope that someday Neeson wins an Academy Award. He simply delivers great performances each year since he started his acting career. All he would need to win an Oscar is another role like the one he had in Schindler’s List.
