Generation challenges are challenges that must be completed before a player can proceed to the next Generation. Most people compare regenerating to earning a new prestige in the Call of Duty series, just to give you an idea or what goes on. However, rewards for regenerating are slim, unlike in Call of Duty. There are no titles, aesthetic upgrades, additional custom slots and so on for reaching your next generation. You do acquire some Burn Cards and a couple of Achievements, as well as the new GEN icon, but that’s really it.
There are five total challenges for GEN3.
If It Moves… – Plasma Railgun
Kill 100 enemies with the Plasma Railgun. Keep in mind that it says “enemies” and not Pilots – HUGE difference. Enemies count as enemy AI, such as Grunts, for example. While the Plasma Railgun is probably the worst and aggravating out of any Titan weapon, this challenge isn’t terribly bad. You will find yourself missing a lot of what seems like easy shots on these enemy AI, but just be thankful that it’s not Pilots.
Merely find groups of enemy AI and take them out. I do this challenge at the same time as the next one to get them out of the way.
Titan Killer – Railgun
Kill 50 Titan(s) with the Plasma Railgun. This is one of the single most aggravating challenges in the game. The Plasma Railgun, for the most part, is terrible compared to the other Titan weapons available. The ammo capacity is low, you have to power up a shot (Until you get Instant Shot) to get any decent damage, and your Titan kills will get stolen. You may even cry. But fear not, because you will get through this, too.
Your best bet is to grind out the first ten kills and unlock the Instant Shot attachment. This attachment makes it so you cannot charge the weapon anymore and lowers it’s damage ceiling, but it’s worth it. I was going insane charging a shot, moving from a wall, hitting an enemy Titan, rinse and repeat. This also gives you an extra shot in your magazine (Woohoo!). The fire rate increases. Use this. Trust me.
As for completing the challenge itself, you’ll have to most likely steal Titan kills from team members. The Plasma Railgun just isn’t powerful enough. Even when I took on another Titan 1v1 and hit all of my shots, I had to reload, the enemy being close to doomed. A team member would then swoop in and steal my kill. This happened many times. Your best bet, if possible, it to play with friends who will let you get the last shot on damaged Titans.
I also suggest Last Titan Standing since there it more opportunity to fight other Titans. I also suggest the Atlas chassis since the Damage Core works quite well for the Plasma Railgun.
If It Moves – R-97 Compact SMG
Kill 200 enemies with the R-97 Compact SMG. This weapon isn’t terrible, but it’s no Carbine. For further shots it’s quite messy, but up close and medium range it’s quite a nice weapon. Please note that like the first challenge, this is for killing enemies, not just enemy Pilots. So merely swarm towards enemy Grunts (Use Minion Detector) and go to town. I suggest playing Attrition for this, this way you help your team as well.
I also suggest using the Suppressor on this weapon so you don’t show up on the minimap when you’re taking down groups of enemies.
Top Gun – R-97 Compact SMG
Kill 75 Pilot(s) with the R-97 Compact SMG. I’ve already stated that the weapon is good for close and medium range combat, but the Carbine is all around a better weapon, so watch out for people (Well, almost everyone) using that. I highly suggest strafing when using this weapon in close quarters to gain an edge over enemies, especially newer players.
Now this is the challenge where it’s to kill enemy Pilots, not just enemies. So that means you’ll have to kill 75 real life players total. Overall, not a bad challenge.
No-Hitter – Satchel Charge
Kill 50 Pilot(s) with Satchel Charges. For those of you who have played Call of Duty, this is essentially the C4. You toss it and detonate it by double tapping the X button. The range isn’t too great compared to the football-like throws from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and such, but the Satchel Charge is quite powerful. I suggest using it in Hardpoint Domination to clear out objective areas.
Also notice that this is for killing enemy Pilots, not just enemies, just like the “Top Gun” challenge for the R-97 Compact SMG this GEN. This challenge took me a bit longer, but overall it wasn’t terribly hard. If you see an oblivious enemy running in front of you, lead your throw and detonate when it’s close.
