For the best results you should hill your potato plants so that they can make nice big potatoes. Your harvest will be so much better if you have hilled your potato plants. Your potato plants should be hilled when they are about 6 inches to a foot tall.
Plant your potatoes in rows with the potato eyes about three inches deep. Once they start to grow they will grow quickly. Your potatoes could be ready to hill about 3 weeks after you have planted them.

The size of the hill that is surrounding the potato plant will have a big impact on how many and how big the potatoes are. The bigger the hill the more chance you will have of a good potato crop. You will find that when you harvest your potatoes you will have an easier time harvesting them when you have made big hills around the plants.
