Many countries don’t fight the urge to take an afternoon nap. It seems a natural response for a body to want a 20 minute snooze in the afternoon. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to take an afternoon nap. Here are some tips to help you revive and have energy in the afternoon.
A cup of coffee may help wake you up for awhile in the afternoon but it also may prevent you from sleeping at night. If you drink caffeinated coffee in the afternoon and then can’t sleep at night you may not want to have that afternoon cup.
Exercise can help you get motivated. Go for a fast 5 minute afternoon walk to help get your blood flowing. Or make the afternoon your natural time to hit the gym. Exercise can be a big benefit to help energize your body and increase your brain activity. It can also help you get a good night sleep.
A quick shower may help you wake up. Start out with a nice hot shower and sometime before you end the shower turn on the cold water. The cold will definitely wake you up and stimulate your body. If you don’t have a shower available then splash your face with some water.
An icy treat may help wake you up. Have a frosty drink or an ice cream treat to help perk you up. Even a bar of chocolate may be just enough to perk you up.
Take time to have a nice stretch. Stretch out your legs and arms. Stretch out your back and neck. Start from the bottom with your feet and go up to your head. Try to stretch out every muscle. Even open your mouth wide and see if a good stretch will help get the blood flowing.
Have a high protein snack to give you a boost of energy. A protein bar or a few nuts may be all you need for a burst of energy. Stay away from junk foods that will just make you drowsy.
If you wake up with an alarm get up after the first alarm. After the first alarm goes off get up and do some gentle stretching instead of allowing yourself to go back to sleep. If you keep hitting the snooze button you are not getting enough sleep and you may need to go to bed earlier to get a better nights sleep.
