My daughter had a birthday last month, and I decided to throw her a party and invite some of her young friends. I did not want to spend too much money, so I created a tight budget to keep us on track. Here are some tips on how to plan a birthday party for young girls on a budget.
When trying to plan a party on a budget, creativity is essential. It can be very cost effective to use items that you already have and transform them for the party. For example, take and create birthday decorations yourself. Poster board is very inexpensive and can be easily used with markers, crayons or colored pencils to create great customized signs and banners.
I made centerpieces for my daughter’s party by covering large rolls of toilet paper with colored tissue paper and pipe cleaners. I decided to throw a princess themed party. We had the girls make their own personal pan pizzas and ice cream sundaes. We asked the girls to wear dresses and I purchased very inexpensive beads and string so that they could make their own necklaces. I also got some paper crowns from Burger King the night before so they could finish off their outfits.
You can really save your checkbook a lot of pain if you slowly start to purchase items for the party. I decided to spend five to ten dollars each week to purchase items that we would need. for example, the first week I bought the numeral candle for the cake, goody bags and candy to put in them. These items were on sale at my local party store so I spent less than $5.00.
It is important to make a list of items that will be needed. I bought everything I could that was on sale and could go in my pantry and then left the perishable items for the last month to save as much money as I could.
Use Coupons to Save Money
Using coupons is a great way to save money on party items such as plastic cups, plates, cutlery, chips and cake mixes. One great coupon website that I use is: Coupons by Dede. The website is a coupon clipping service so you can order the coupons that you need for the items and then have them shipped directly to your home. Most stores double the values of coupons up to $1.00 so this can be a great way to save money.
Get Others Involved
I mentioned to my friends and family members that I was planning a princess themed party. They came up with items that we could use. My dad gave us huge cardboard boxes that he made castles with, my mom was able to create long robes for the kids with spare yards of fabric and my friends lent us their kiddie pools to make moats. The whole backyard was essentially decorated for very little. It takes time and effort, but choosing a theme and then finding inexpensive ways to execute it can make the best birthday parties.
