Packaging: Tiki Cat Waimea Luau Tuna on Rice with Prawns comes in 2.8 oz or 6 oz cans. You can buy this by the can if you can find a retailer that carries it or you can buy it by the case. The smaller cans come in a 12 pack and the larger ones come in a 8 pack. I like buying this in a variety pack because it is not one of the varieties that our cat eats every day. Tiki Cat has two variety packs. You can get this food in the King Kamehameha Luau Variety Pack
The Food: The food is mostly tuna with just a tiny bit of brown rice and a few prawns. You have to look hard to see anything but the tuna which is mostly darker in color than most tuna in the can. Besides the few grains of rice there are not starches in the food.
My thoughts: I do not feed fish to Tinkerbelle for every meal as I feel it is a bit rich for him. I feed him three meals a day and at most I give him one can of fish per day. I like to give him variety and this is something he would maybe get once a week. the primary protein we feed is chicken because it is easiest on his system. He has a sensitive tummy.
We feed our cat a variety premium canned foods. Lately I have been giving him almost all Tiki Cat Brand foods because they are some of the best I have found. All of their ingredients are human grade. This is important to me because standards are much higher for human food than it is for pet food. Pet food companies get away with a lot because rules for pet foods are more relaxed.
Tiki Cat also has some of the lowest carbohydrate foods on the market. Cat’s have no nutritional need for carbohydrates so generally they are added to save money. A tiny bit here and there will not hurt them and can be helpful to add a little fiber since cats are not eating bones like they would in the wild. I usually add a little pumpkin to Tink’s food to keep things moving and keep hairballs from coming up.
How my cat likes it: Tink seems to enjoy this food. He gobbles it up and licks the dish clean. When fed occasionally he has no stomach upsets. Tink seems to like eating things in rotation. I have noticed that when I give him the same thing for every meal he sort of develops a ho hum attitude so buying the variety packs are a nice way to ensure variety and the Tuna and Prawns is always a hit.
Final Thoughts and Rating
Tiki Cat Waimea Luau Tuna on Rice with Prawns gets 4 stars from me. It is a good food but more of a treat than an everyday food. We will continue to buy it in the variety packs.
