This morning we tried Tiki Cat Koolina Luau Chicken with Egg in Chicken Consomme Canned Cat Food and both my cat and I were impressed. My cat Tinkerbelle eats only high quality canned cat foods. He is not just spoiled, we made the decision to switch his food after he was very ill with IBS and a variety of other auto-immune issues. We had been giving him some supplements and medications but we thinking that changing his food is at least equally responsible for him not having a relapse with any of his illnesses in 18 months.
The Packaging: The cat food comes in either 2.8oz cans or 6 oz cans. I usually buy the smaller cans by the case to save money. The cans all have pull tops that are easy and convenient to open. You can get this food in a case alone or in a variety package. I like buying the variety packs so that I can feed my cat variety without purchasing ten cases of food.
The Food: This quality canned cat food is mostly chicken with a little bit of egg mixed in. The egg is made from dried egg that seems to be cut into squares. In addition to the Chicken meat and egg, there is also chicken broth and supplements to keep your cat healthy. There are no starches or grains in this food.
My thoughts: I love Tiki Cat foods for the fact that they have eliminated the starch from the cat’s diet. Cat’s really have no nutritional need for Carbohydrates so this food offers about the best foods that I have found. I would have preferred if they had used real instead of dried egg in this food. While it is still far superior to other foods available, if I am going to go to the expense of buying premium food, I am not expecting a dried food product to be added.
Tinkerbelles thoughts: Tink loved this as he does all the other Tiki Cat Varieties. He usually laps up the broth first and then chomps on the meat. I am not sure if he even noticed the egg in there. He is not a huge fan of egg as I have given him egg when I make some. I have a feeling that the egg in this product takes on the flavor of the chicken from the broth, so it all seems to be gone from his dish when he is done with this meal.
Final thoughts and rating
Tiki Cat Koolina Luau gets four stars from me. Had they used unprocessed cooked eggs rather than the dried egg it would be a full five stars. This is still a very high quality food but I find the more than brand that I try, the pickier I get. I will probably continue to buy this in the variety pack to give to Tinkerbelle on occasion.
