My cat Tinkerbelle has a lot of health issues and we finally went to all wet foods that are mainly meat and liquid. We found Tiki Cat Hawaiian Grill Ahi Tuna Canned Cat Food at Chewy.com and have been feeding this and many other varieties to our cat. Tink has IBS, FLUTD, Allergies, and Feline Herpes. On top of that he was over weight. It is odd to think that a cat that I could not get to keep his food down was overweight but he was 16 pounds when we changed his diet to all wet and he was definitely overweight. 18 months later he is now 11.5 lbs and in good condition. He eats three meals a day with about 3 oz of this and other foods. He gets something different for each meal.
Packaging: This food comes in either 2.8oz cans or 6 oz cans. I usually buy the smaller cans by the case to save money. The cans all have pull tops that are easy and convenient to open. You can get this food in a case alone or in a variety package. I like buying the variety packs so that I can feed my cat variety without purchasing ten cases of food.
The Food: The food s all tuna and looks to be a mix of lighter and darker meat. It also includes all the supplements that your cat would need. This is a basic flaked food. It is probably not my favorite of all the Tiki Cat brands but it’s a quality food and the cat loves it.
My thoughts: While this is a premium cat food it is not one of my favorites because I tend to like pet foods that are not mushed up. I like giving him a food where I can see and identify the meat. I also like larger chunks because I think that the minced or flaked foods tend to leave more food left behind in the teeth. That said I will continue to buy this food as part of the variety package that I get. Tink needs to get fish and this food is just Ahi Tuna and some supplements. It’s probably better than anything at the grocery store.
Speaking of buying it. I have yet to find this in a store anywhere. I finally gave up looking and buy most of our canned cat foods online at Chewy.com
Tinkerbelles experience: Tinkerbelle seems to like all the foods we are feeding him. He loves them so much that he jumps up on the counter and lets me give him his meds (he takes about 4 things morning and night) He just sits and lets me put the pills at the back of his tongue and swallows them because he knows that a good treat is coming right afterward. I am not sure Tink has a favorite food. The only time he picks at his food is if I feed him the same thing every day. As long as he is getting variety he is always ready to eat and eats well. As I said earlier, he gets about 3oz of food three times a day. Sometimes a little more and sometimes a little less. He seems to still have maybe a pound at most to lose but it’s going very slowly. He sort of had a stall at 12 lbs then started losing again.
Final thoughts and rating
While compared to dry food or your grocery store variety of canned foods Tiki Cat Hawaiian Grill Ahi Tuna Canned Cat Food is a 5 stars. I am comparing it to other foods that we are feeding which are all premium. I am giving this one a 4 out of 5 stars, because it is small flakes which is not my favorite. It is still great food though.
