There are a lot of rumors coming down the vine about the new Disney produced “Star Wars” movies. What has already been revealed is that there will be a new trilogy, starting with “Episode VII,” which will bring back the original cast as well as a new young cast of fresh faces. There will also be spin-off movies in the works, although Disney has not officially announced what they will be.
Recently, a German Star Wars site reported that a high ranking Hasbro official informed them that the “Star Wars” films through 2020 have already been decided. The new trilogy will hit theaters in 2015, 2017 and 2019. Then in 2016, 2018 and 2020, there will be spin-off movies based on Boba Fett, Han Solo and Red Five. While these are just rumors, here is what you should know about those three spin-off possibilities.
The “Boba Fett” movie has been rumored since Disney acquired the “Star Wars” franchise, with Lawrence Kasdan (“The Empire Strikes Back”) working on it. The idea of making the popular Boba Fett into a hero, though, is not going to be an easy thing for Disney to accomplish. In the movies, he was never a major character but had the “cool factor” that made him a cult favorite, even going so far as to show his origin in the prequels. However, making Boba Fett a lead in the movie as a hero, while keeping the villainous actions that made him cool, is not an easy task. It is the movie that most “Star Wars” fans want to see.
The most obvious character for a “Star Wars” spin-off movie is Han Solo, easily the most interesting hero in the entire franchise. He opened the first “Star Wars” movie as a smuggler and was almost an antihero until he finally turned things around and helped the rebel forces destroy the first Death Star. The idea here is not for Harrison Ford to return to the role of Han Solo, but for the movie to show a young Han Solo and an adventure he had long before fans met him in the “Star Wars” universe.
The third idea is a mystery. The “Star Wars” movie rumored for 2020 is called “Red Five.” This is the call sign for the fifth member of the Red Squadron. Both Luke Skywalker and his father Anakin flew in this position. There is no telling where this story could be heading, but it is likely it won’t be about Luke or Anakin at all, since those stories have already been shown. More likely, this movie will be more of a military movie in the new “Star Wars” universe they are creating, possibly a spin-off for one of the brand new characters introduced.
