You have to worry about picking out a green outfit for St. Patrick’s Day, but some of the biggest upcoming movies of 2014 feature characters who won’t get pinched no matter what they wear.
In honor of leprechauns, shamrocks, and green beer, here’s a look at the green characters you can look forward to seeing in movies this year:
Kermit the Frog
Miss Piggy might think that Kermie has pinchable cheeks, but everyone’s favorite felt frog can rest easy being green on St. Patrick’s Day. Shortly after celebrating the holiday, you’ll be able to check out Kermit and his Muppet friends in “Muppets Most Wanted.” According to Kermit, a whole slew of celebrities will be making cameos in his latest caper. They include Celine Dion, P. Diddy, and Salma Hayek. There’s also going to be an appearance by an evil Kermit look-alike, so you’ll be getting twice as much green for your green if you spring for a ticket. The movie hits theaters on March 21.
Barf and Belch
These dragon heads that share a body are two of the many fire-breathers returning to the big screen in “How to Train Your Dragon 2.” Based on the trailer, it looks like the green conjoined team will be teaming up with bickering Viking twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut to fight a threat to Vikings and dragons alike. See how they fare on June 13.
The Dinobots aren’t the only new characters joining “Transformers: Age of Extinction.” The fourth film in the popular franchise will also welcome a new Autobot named Slingshot who can transform into a very stylish green C7 Corvette Stingray. You can catch a quick glimpse of him using a parachute in the trailer for the movie. See if Mark Wahlberg can breathe new life into this franchise on June 27.
Zoe Saldana is trading her blue “Avatar” skin for a green one in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” The actress will be playing Gamora, an alien assassin known as “the deadliest woman in the galaxy.” The movie includes another kinda green character named Groot (Vin Diesel). He’s a root-like character who appears to be covered in moss. Check out this bizarro version of “The Avengers” on August 1.
The Ninja Turtles
Michael Bay might be taking the “teenage mutant” out of the equation for the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” reboot. At the Nickelodeon Upfront New York event in 2012, the producer of the movie said that the crime-fighting green guys will have alien origins. Needless to say, some “TMNT” fans weren’t happy about the secret of the ooze being eliminated from the turtles’ back stories. Bay responded on his website by telling fans to chill out. He wrote that the turtles will just be getting a “more complex back story” and a “richer world.” Fans will finally get to see a glimpse of that world when the first “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” trailer debuts with “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4. The heroes in a half-shell will return to theaters to tell their full story on August 8.
