I am fed up with the wars started by the GOP. They want to be seen as the protectors of our populace and to do so they have to have wars against enemies that will soon be on our shore. Remember “Tricky Dick”‘s “domino theory” which amounted to the Communists taking control of Vietnam, then being on the US shores? The GOP learned from that and adapted it to utilize it in Bush 43’s term as the Global War on Terrorism
Now the GOP isn’t in power, but the neocons are trying to convince us that the terrorists, now based in Iraq, are an imminent threat.
I’ll tell you about imminent. The article “Bush-Cheney ignored warnings of imminent Bin Laden attack” details how if Bush 43 was more aggressive 9/11 might have been averted.
The article states “The direct warnings to Mr. Bush about the possibility of a Qaeda attack began in the spring of 2001. By May 1, the Central Intelligence Agency told the White House of a report that “a group presently in the United States” was planning a terrorist operation. Weeks later, on June 22, the daily brief reported that Qaeda strikes could be “imminent.”
Bin laden was based in Afghanistan. Bush 43 conflated Afghanistan–which isn’t even in the Middle East, with Iraq. That is impressive brainwashing.
The song “Eve Of Destruction”, regarding Middle East violence, contains the lyrics:
“The eastern world it is exploding
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war but whats that gun you’re totin’?
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’
But you tell me
Over and over and over again my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve of destruction “.
The article “The madness in Iraq and the comeback of the neocons” illustrates how Bush 43 is to blame for Iraq and how the neocons don’t want to retire.
The article states “The original blame for this disaster is on the Bush administration, but also on all those who succumbed to a Superpower Syndrome, which claimed we could redesign the Middle East. There is no reason whatsoever to justify further loss of American lives or tax dollars on a conflict that we do not understand and that started before the United States was born.”
What should we do now? How can we do anything? We can’t stop Sunnis fighting Shiites, who are both streaming in from all over the Middle East. The article states “U.S. airstrikes would be utter folly if the specter of a further Sunni advance is false and if ISIS does advance to Baghdad, American bombing will have little effect on street-to-street fighting within an all Shiite city. Entrapping Obama in a foreign policy fiasco would be the real agenda.”
The neocons don’t want to retire so they desperately want to trap President Obama in an Iraq quagmire, which will be more difficult to escape than Vietnam.
What did the Bush 43 Iraq War accomplish? The article states “We left behind a vengeance-driven Shiite regime aligned with Iran.
Now the related sectarian war in Syria is enlarging into a regional one between Sunnis and Shiites across borders.”
Look, the GOP wants to keep us in wars because the neocons think they gain political advantage from it in addition to their desire to create US hegemony over the world.
“1984” was a book that drew upon the evil that the Nazis and other tyrannies perpetrated on the world. Bush 43 utilized these concepts.
The article “GWOT is GOP’s Version of “1984”‘s Perpetual War — Rove and Cheney Use “1984” Concepts to Defend Their Administration” illustrated that W’s administration did anything they could to scare the populace into believing only the GOP would protect them.
The article stated “Rove read ‘1984’ and his idea of permanent GOP majority was born. To Herr Karl there was Big Brother 43 who required constant loyalty. Anyone who defied Big bro 43–Max Cleland a decorated war hero who Rove compared to bin laden, was destroyed….Herr Karl used bin laden then when it became obvious they had him caught in Tora Bora they had to let him escape or our foes in GWOT would have suffered a debilitating defeat. They had to keep the war going so they went to Iraq and found Zarqawi to be the new bogeyman.” The red staters enjoy having individuals-bin laden, Zarqaw, Democrat Max Cleland, to focus their hatred on.
Afghanistan/Iraq, Eastasia/Eurasia-the names don’t matter if you control the minds of your citizens who you have conditioned to quake in fear and love you for protecting them.
The article amplified the “1984” concepts as it stated “Rove is quoted as saying “That’s not the way the world really works anymore. We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality – judiciously, as you will – we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors … and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.” which could come directly from “1984’s” Minitrue.
Spending so much on security and defense and letting our economy deteriorate would have been problems, but Herr Rove counted on them as the article states “They wanted to have the society use up the products of the machine without raising the general standard of living, and brother this 10% unemployment fills that bill. They have the beginnings of Doublethink and Memory Holes and other trappings of “1984” also.”
Rove assumed that if our citizens would be compelled to compete for a dearth of low-paying, brutish jobs they would be weary and defenseless and amenable to GOP benefiting goals.
We’ve described how the GOP has been lying to the US populace for generations about threats to our security. Aren’t war mongering and inducing fear on your populace evil tactics? The GOP operatives have perpetrated some truly vile “Orwellian” tactics on its citizens for petty partisan gain.
