No one truly understands what the benefits are of reading everyday. Many choose not to, and I understand that if they have never found anything good to read. However, there is always something good to read, for everyone. There are some people out there that hardly ever read, but I’m hoping to change that. There really is nothing like a good book. Here are a few reasons reading everyday is a very beneficial thing to do.
Your mind stays sharp
By reading, you are keeping your mind active and in shape. When you watch TV your mind is very inactive. However, the opposite can be said about reading. Your mind is very much so active. Just like keeping your body in shape, you need to also keep your mind in shape. So exercise it a little by picking up a book everyday.
Takes your mind off of things
Life can come to be very stressful at times. Maybe you hate your job, or maybe your girlfriend or boyfriend just broke up with you. Who knows? Whatever the reason may be, reading is an excellent outlet. When you read, your mind becomes so involved in the action that you won’t be able to think about anything else. It’s a great way to get away from your own mind for a little while.
I’m sure that many of you will disagree with this, but I can promise that there is a book out there that even you would not be able to put down. There is a book out there for everyone. You just have to find what you’re interested in. For me, it’s a good fantasy novel. I love those. Maybe for you it’s a book on mountain climbing. In which case, Into Thin Air would be an excellent book for you to read. Maybe you’re into golf. There are some awesome instructional books out there like, Harvey Penick’s Little Red Notebook, which is said to be one of the most important pieces of golf instruction there is.
You are always learning when your reading. Whether it be about what you’re reading, or maybe if you’re really not reading anything educational, then at the very least you’re honing your editing and vocabulary skills. Just by reading you’re educating yourself. If you’re reading a fantasy book you’re really educating the imaginative side of your brain!
If you don’t like reading, then I’m not really sure if this article will get read, but I’ve got to do something about all the non-readers out there! Pick up a book! You won’t regret it.
