Scrubs is a comedy/drama television show that aired from 2001 to 2010 on NBC and ABC. It was created by Bill Lawrence. The show surrounds the lives of several doctors working at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Besides being funny and quirky, the show featured some great music.
Here are my top ten favorite episodes, in no particular order.
Season 1/ Episode 4- My Old Lady: JD, Turk and Elliot all have patients who are dying. Carla helps Elliot make a decision despite their previous fighting. JD befriends an old lady who is ready to die, and he realizes that death scares him. JD takes the advice of his patient and lies in the grass contemplating all the things he has yet to accomplish.
Season 1/ Episode 14- My Drug Buddy: Percocet goes missing and JD finds out Alex took them. They break up and JD and Elliot make out. Turk finds out that Dr. Cox likes Carla. Carla gets rides to work from Dr. Kelso.
Season 2/ Episode 13- My Philosophy: Turk plans to propose to Carla, but a kid patient swallows the ring. He proposes to Carla before she leaves for a funeral but Carla says she has to think about it. JD discusses death with a heart transplant patient. Later she dies, and the cast sings “Waiting for my Real Like to Begin” by Colin Hay.
Season 2/ Episode 15- His Story: Elliot meets a male nurse but is embarrassed to date him because of his profession. Turk proposes to Carla on top of a car with JD running around it holding sparklers and saying “honk for love!” Audiences see a day in the life of Dr. Cox, including his sessions with a psychiatrist. Carla keeps saying she’s undecided about marriage, but by the end of the episode she says yes to Turk.
Season 3/ Episode 16- My Butterfly: JD examines how the smallest event can cause the biggest reactions. Turk asks Carla to find his lucky doo-rag for surgery. Elliot tries to find a patient’s stuffed animal. Dr. Cox takes orders from JD.
Season 5/ Episode 3- My Day at the Races: JD is turning 30 and hasn’t accomplished what he wanted so he decides to do a triathlon. Elliot goes to JD for advice about Jake, she tells Jake about an apple farmer fantasy, and they break up by the end of the episode. Turk’s patient gets hypnosis before surgery instead of anesthesia and it doesn’t work, but he makes a stir at the hospital. Turk sings a portion of “Safety Dance.”
Season 5/ Episode 20- My Lunch: Carla and Elliot are convinced Todd is gay but he isn’t. JD runs into an old patient at the store but he’s annoyed with her. Soon the patient shows up at the hospital due to a supposed overdose. Dr. Cox uses her organs to transplant into three dying patients, but the overdose turns out to be rabies and all the patients die because of it. JD tries to console Dr. Cox.
Season 6/ Episode 8- My Road to Nowhere: JD, Elliot, Keith, Carla, Ted and the Janitor take a road trip to Tacoma, Washington so JD can witness Kim’s ultrasound. When he arrives, she says she had a miscarriage, but really she’s still pregnant. Dr. Cox finds out he’s having a baby girl.
Season 6/ Episode 11- My Night to Remember: A patient who tried committing suicide has amnesia. This forces the doctors to recall memories of the past. The episode features flashbacks from former episodes including the characters’ clumsiness, fantasies, dancing, nicknames, and vulnerable moments.
Season 8/ Episode 15- My Soul on Fire, Part 2: The janitor prepares for his wedding and eventually gets married. All the couples fight but eventually make up in the end. Ted sings an acoustic rendition of “Hey Ya.”
