The San Francisco Giants are a great team, but more importantly, they are consistent. This makes them a threat to all of the teams in the Major League, because they do not have a weakness. The Giants are a sure contender for the Commissioner’s Trophy.
In the most recent power rankings on Fox Sports, the San Francisco Giants are in the the number one spot at the top of the list. This might be hard to believe because, in the past, they have struggled to put runs on the board. However, when you look at their statistics, and the consistency they have on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, they are the best team in the league, and are going to be a serious contender for the title.
While there is not one person on the Giants roster that is dominating in the batters box like Giancarlo Stanton from the Miami Marlins, the Giants have a well-rounded set of players that feed off of each other, and pick up the slack where it is needed. This is the main reason why they are in the top spot right now, because throughout their lineup, they are a collectively consistent and dependable group of players. A prime example of this is, as of right now, Michael Morse, Brandon Belt, and Buster Posey have hit 26 home runs, collectively, in 45 games (Yahoo Sports). They are on pace to hit around 100 Home Runs this season, just from those three players. The Giants are currently third in Home Runs and ninth in RBI’s, but twentieth in Batting Average. This just shows that they get hits when they need to, and produce runs when they are provided with the opportunity.
Now let’s take a look at the other side of the ball. Tim Hudson just continues to dominate when he is on the mound even though just last year he underwent season-ending ankle surgery to repair his deltoid ligament and fractured fibula. I bet the Atlanta Braves are kicking themselves for letting Hudson go, but the Giants are loving it. Madison Bumgarner currently has the most wins on the Giants roster with five, just two behind the league leader Zack Greinke (Yahoo Sports). Bumgarner is also leading the team with 59 strikeouts, but Tim Lincecum is right behind him with 52 strikeouts of his own (Yahoo Sports). This is another great example of consistency within the Giants organization. The well-rounded roster they have is impressive and they definitely compliment each other.
Let’s Sum This Up
The Giants can hit, pitch, field, and they have good chemistry in the locker room. I cannot think of anything else you can ask for in a team from the fan’s perspective, nor the teams perspective. The Giants are going to contend once again for the Commissioner’s Trophy this year, and I will not be surprised if they come out on top in the playoffs.
