A woman’s wedding day is one of the single most important days of her life. It requires months and months of preparation to get everything just right, and one of the biggest decisions to be made is the wedding gown.
Celebrities are oftentimes trendsetters when it comes to the fashion world, and this is especially true when it comes to wedding attire. I mean, what girl doesn’t dream of looking just like Princess Dianna or Kate Middleton on their wedding day? However, some celebrity choices can be a little outlandish or just downright crazy. Check out the most elaborate and outrageous celebrity wedding dresses, from the extreme to the extravagant.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Most women wear white on their special day, however, when Sarah Jessica Parker married Matthew Broderick in 1997, she was more appropriately dressed for a funeral. The Sex in the City star, who is known for her fashion sense, has on several occasions voiced her regret for this particular fashion faux pas. While her dress was a very elegant black taffeta dress, she deeply regrets not wearing a traditional white dress for her wedding. She and Matthew have tried to keep their personal lives from the media and she states that she chose to not wear a traditional dress to avoid attention and speculation. While her dress may not be traditional, her marriage has lasted over 17 years (a rarity in Hollywood), so she must be doing something right. In a magazine interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Sarah Jessica Parker vowed to “white it up” if they ever renew their nuptials.
While Pamela Anderson did wear white on her wedding day, it was anything but traditional. When Pamela married Kid Rock in 1996 she was dressed, or should we say under-dressed, in a white mini dress that she quickly shed for a white string bikini and sailor’s hat. Would you expect anything less from this dynamic duo?
Nicole Richie, on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, sported three different extravagant dresses during her nuptials. She wore one gown for the ceremony, another for dinner and yet another for the after party, all three by Marchesa. The special day was shared with none other than a real live elephant. In an interview on Larry King Live, Nicole Richie described her ideal wedding as an extravagant affair, with an extensive guest list and an elephant for good luck. Her inspiration for this came from the movie, Coming to America, where Eddie Murphy plays a prince with an elaborate wedding that also includes an elephant.
Honey Boo Boo
Most women want to stand out on their wedding day. However, Honey Boo Boo’s mom, Mama June, just wanted to blend in, dressed in all camouflage for her big day with Sugar Bear. In the 2nd season finale of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Mama June finally tied the knot in a camouflage and orange dress that was as big and obnoxious as her, umm, personality. It was quite the redneck affair, complete with a pig roast and everything.
Kate Middleton’s wedding, on the other hand, was the quintessential fairy-tale wedding. Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge’s marriage to Prince William was one of the most televised weddings and the pure essence of class and sophistication. Millions of viewers woke up before dawn to watch this iconic wedding on their television screens. Kate wore an elaborate, lace embroidered gown with a nine-foot long skirt made from hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace designed by Sarah Burton, while women and young girls from around the world watched in awe.
