Earthing or grounding is a result of scientific studies, which indicate that there are mental and physical health benefits, from direct contact with mother earth. In one study, participants who sat in recliner chairs with metal grounding to the earth, showed less stress than those who sat in conventional lounge chairs.
I grew up in the county where my friends, siblings and I ran barefoot in the grass, and through mud puddles after it rained. We rolled down hills and often lay on the ground looking up at the stars. We climbed trees and played hide and seek in deep wooded areas. We also walked through creeks and ponds with our pant legs rolled up.
The boys often slept outside in tents, or on blankets, while at each others houses. We often jumped rope in our bare feet in the grass, or areas of soft dirt. When we were at cookouts or picnics, we sat on the ground, more than we used chairs. We also would play softball in our bare feet. I do not remember anyone ever cutting their feet from all this direct contact with the earth.
Before No shirt no shoes no service, we often walked in our bare feet to local stores, or the post office. We were just children having fun, and had no idea there were health benefit in it for us. I believe it makes good sense, that the earth the Almighty created would have healing properties.
The bible tells us in Genesis chapter 1, that man was made from the dust of the ground. And we know that the best foods we can eat to stay healthy, look younger and live longer are vegetables and fruits which come from the earth or trees that are rooted in the ground.
In recent years my family and neighbor have questioned my walking out doors in my bare feet, or sitting in the back yard under a tree. Now that I know about earthing and grounding, I shall do so even more.We have been told that fresh air, sunshine, and walking on the beach are relaxing, ad reduce stress. The grounding and earthing studies give us a little more insight as to why.
A few weeks ago my grandchildren convinced me to roll down a hill with them. It was fun, but I was pretty dizzy afterwards. I plan to have more outdoor fun with them, starting with kicking off our shoes, sitting on and running through the grass.
There are risks to bare footed outdoor activities. Check carefully for glass or other objects that might penetrate your feet. Be careful of bees wasps, and fire ants. Depending on where you live there may be the probability of snakes.
While at a local beach,, i grounded my feet firmly in the wet sand, as I waded through the water, allowing sand to ooze up through my toes. Not only did it feel good,in that moment, but I slept like a baby for the next 3 nights, because sand is filled with magnesium which reduces stress, and relaxes. I eagerly await the healthy benefits of walking barefoot outside and sitting or laying on the ground on a regular basis.
