Games are a major “escape” in peoples’ lives. With so many to choose from, it’s not hard to run into a bad game. Luckily, the same can be said for the flip side; that it’s also not too difficult to find a good game too. Here are five of the best-selling video game sports franchises.
Having sold over 100 million copies combined from Wii Sports and Wii Fit, the Wii Sports franchise has shown its popularity around the world, and has also helped to make the Wii a success. Although Wii Sports was sold as a pack-in product that came with many Wii consoles, its status of being the first game released for the Wii has proven that the Wii console should not be underestimated and also laid down the foundation for the interest and success in future Wii games. The graphics are not the best, but the ability to play against friends and the artificial intelligence will keep you busy for hours upon hours of exercising fun.
FIFA was released in 1993, but it still going strong today with over 100 million copies of the FIFA video games released annually being sold. The FIFA franchise has one of the best coverages in terms of teams while also offering a great amount of freedom when choosing a console to play it on. The different modes and the improvement in the artificial intelligence over the years helps to keep the franchise strong and continues to draw players from around the world.
With just under 100 million copies of the Madden NFL video games being sold, the Madden NFL franchise is one of the biggest, just behind FIFA and Wii Sports. Whether you played the original release of Madden NFL in 1988 or the newer versions of it, you’re sure to notice that the game may not be the best due to its technical issues. However, rest assured, the artificial intelligence and graphics have improved over the years. The ability to customize many aspects of the newer games has been a huge plus and makes it easier for new players to get the gang of the game. If you still feel like you need more convincing, you may also try out one of the earlier versions of the game (2001 or earlier) if you think an ambulance coming onto the field while ignoring any players in its path would be of interest to you (which it was, for many of the original players).
Pro Evolution Soccer (World Soccer: Winning Eleven)
With over 75 million copies of the video games sold, the Pro Evolution Soccer (PES for short) franchise is a great alternative for FIFA video games. There are less characters and teams to choose from compared to FIFA and the artificial intelligence needs improving, however, its lack of selection is made up by the excellent graphics. If you’ve tried out FIFA and didn’t like that, then you should try out PES before giving up on your search for a good soccer video game. If FIFA and PES were to be merged together, then boy would a glorious game be made as each others’ weaknesses are improved by the other’s strengths.
Since its initial release in 2000, the WWE 2K franchise has sold over 60 million copies of its video games. If you are a fan of wrestling, then this is the game for you. With few other games considered worthy of being a competitor of the WWE 2K series, it would be difficult to find another series better than this. The sheer amount of features packed into the game will keep you busy for hours as you sift through the extensive list of players to choose from. The artificial intelligence and graphics may not be the best, but the movement has gotten much better over the years and still deserves a worthy place on the shelves of wrestling fans.
