While Florida is known for its beaches and sunny weather, it also has a rich history in the field of music. Ariana Grande, Pitbull and Gloria Estevez are just a few singers from the Sunshine State. Recently, the singing duo known as The Crazy Daysies has been garnering much attention. Jacksonville, Florida based, country music duo, The Crazy Daysies, is comprised of songwriting sisters Rebecca Day (vocals, guitar), and Jen Day-Thompson (viola).
Classically trained, Jen began playing viola at the age of eight and went on to become first chair at both her high school, Douglas Andersen School of the Arts. At 16, she spent her time performing with the S.C. Chamber Orchestra, where she ultimately performed at Carnegie Hall during her senior year of high school.
After earning her A.A. degree, Rebecca decided to join the self-employment field, following in her mother’s footsteps (mother Kay Day is a famous writer). At 21 years old, she started running her business full time. Live performances and an EP release [Now Here, 2012] were her focus. She had the honor of opening for bands such as Lauren Mann and the Fairly Odd Folk and Flagship Romance, and sharing the stage with The Voice contestant, Rebecca Leobe. She also spent time performing for charities dear to her heart such as Wounded Warrior Project and Relay for Life.
After building a solid, solo/acoustic foundation, Rebecca and Jen began working together after an unplanned practice session made them realize how much fun it would be to combine the sounds of their instruments. “While hanging out at my house one evening, she got out her guitar, I got out my viola, and the music just came together. After that, we couldn’t believe it had taken us so long to start playing music together,” says Jen.
On March 30th, 2013, the sisters debuted their first batch of songs together a midst a crowd of supporters at a release for their single, ‘Honest.’ “The support we have from friends, family and people we have met along the way, is the core of what we do. And local media such as Folio Weekly has really helped get the word out about our music. We truly have a grassroots foundation with our music,” says Rebecca.
The Daysies are excited to release their debut EP, Where The Dirt Runs Out of Road, this April 19. The EP will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and more. Fans will also be able to purchase physical copies via thecrazydaysies.com as well as at other venues. It features all original work and recounts tales of the sisters’ most loved subjects: their origins, conquering obstacles, and harnessing inner-strength.
The favorite part of their music is the live performance experience. In October 2013, the duo embarked on their first tour, ‘Guitars, Chill Bars and Pinto Noir,’ a series of dates through Florida beginning in Palm Coast and ending in Ponte Vedra Beach.
