Everyone Is Different
Individuality is what makes the world go around. If everyone on this earth were the same, there would be no diversity in anything. Household pets fall in this category. Not everyone is pet friendly ,and this is all right. Just as many people have a soft heart for pets needing a loving home, and open a home for a dog, cat and more animals needing human contact. Contact the local Humane Society and adopt a loving pet today, or donate what is possible to the local Humane Society.
The Crazy Cat Lady
In my household, we had dogs when the children were growing up. We rescued and fostered most of these animals until we could find a permanent home for them. By 1992, after our last child graduated from high school, we had adopted a cute petite white short haired cat with a faint V on top of her head. She came to our front door and my daughter begged us to please take her in. The kids were grown and gone and I just did not want animals in the house. This kitty was living in the garden next door and was so cute I could not say no. My daughter gave this kitty a flea bath and in she came to be with us for the next 18-years, along with her three children, a kitty daughter-in-law with her son Pudge and their six children.
Originally, my daughter named her new kitty ‘Baby’, however when we discovered ‘Baby’ was pregnant we changed her name to ‘Beebe’. In a few months, ‘Beebe’ delivered two kittens. The male kitten named ‘Bitzy’ looked like a brown and white Maine Coon. The female kitten was all white and named ‘Itzy’.
‘Beebe’ knew something was not right with ‘Itzy’ because she paid her no attention to ‘Itzy’ so we had to bottle-feed her as would not feed her. The vet told us this tiny kitten had congestive heart failure and would not make it more than two weeks.
I had never watched a mama cat take care of her young. ‘Mama Beebe’ was wonderfully attentive to ‘Bitzy’. I could not break them up so we kept ‘Bitzy’. Before we could, get the money together to get ‘Mama Beebe’ fixed ‘Beebe’ became pregnant again.
When it was time to deliver, she had a litter of three kittens. A white male, ‘Jimmy’, a black male, ‘Pudge’, and a white female, ‘Vesta’ now totaled five rescued felines in our home. Her white kittens had black V’s on the top of their heads.
With my daughter now engaged and getting ready to move out to her own home, I did not want animals to care for, however my soft heart won over and since I could not break up Mama Beebe and her kids we kept them. I had fallen in love with ‘Beebe’ and her children. They all had their own blankets, pillows, toys; you name it they had everything we could afford to give them.
I had found it difficult in 1992 to agree to take in one feline, now I had five cats and knew people were going to know I had lost my mind. I was learning many parenting skills from ‘Beebe’ and I found her an amazing addition to our family. Each of her children also offered to us something to learn every day.
Empty Promises Only Made Our Life Better
By this time, our oldest son was attending college about 100-miles from our house. He visited one day with his girlfriend and her small longhaired kitty ‘Silly.’ This girl was afraid she would get into trouble when the college found out she had her 1-year old cat in her dorm room, so our son asked if we could foster ‘Silly’ until his girlfriend finished the year out. She promised to pay all vet bills and pick up ‘Silly’ when school was out for the year. We agreed to take this little princess, but unfortunately, my son and his girlfriend broke up soon after, she never paid any vet bills nor did we ever hear from her again.
Spay or Neuter Your Pets, It is Important!
It is expensive getting pets spayed and neutered. It was going to be expensive as we had a mama cat, her four kittens and ‘Silly’ needing this service. Before we could get ‘Silly’ spayed, she became pregnant. When she delivered, to our horror she had a litter of six, off the wall, cute babies. She had four black furry babies and two white babies with a faint black V on the top of their heads!
‘Pudge’ and ‘Silly’? Oh My Gosh!
The black kittens were the spitting image of Mama Beebe’s black cat Pudge, so now we knew what Pudge, now Papa Pudge Bear had been up to. Again, I could not break up this family so we kept them all, ‘Grandma Beebe’ and everyone else. Now we had twelve felines in our home. It was interesting to watch Papa Bear as he taught the babies how to climb and hunt. They ruined our furniture climbing up the sides but I did not care. Papa was there to catch them if they fell. I would wait with baited breath until they made it to the seat of the couch. Amazing!
It is Important to Keep a Clean and Odor Free Home with Pets
This made me keep the house spic and span. No one would know that we housed so many felines. Our home did not smell nor was it messy with hair. I was devoted now to do all I could for this family. No one could offer such a wonderful home then me. I trusted no one else except my family care for this wonderful family. In addition, it was important to me that this family never separate.
Our story does not stop here. I have much more to tell and have considered writing a book some day. In the end, we ended up with 21 rescues that we housed until the day they would cross over to the Rainbow Bridge. Each rescued feline has their unique story to tell of which we shall never forget until we meet again in Heaven.
