The Factory of Sadness has been going for quite some time now, that being the chosen nickname from fans of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns franchise. (nbcsports) The Browns have been one of the most pained franchises in all of sports, the team has been beaten down so much that at one point they actually lost their entire franchise as it moved to Baltimore to become the Ravens. (wikipedia) One of the biggest issues facing the franchise has been the seemingly impossible feat of finding a franchise Quarterback, having gone through so many different players at the position that one fan created a picture with a jersey featuring the name of every starting Quarterback that has stepped under Center for the team since their return to the National Football League. (bleacherreport) This offseason the Browns were in such desperate need that they signed Tyler Thigpen and Vince Young to fill the void left by injured incumbent starter, Brian Hoyer, then at the 2014 NFL Draft the franchise decided to select the flashy superstar Quarterback Johnny Manziel as their expected Quarterback of the Future. (cleveland) It seemed as if the team had an entire stable of players at the one position that has eluded them in years past, then they cut Young and their trick shot artist Alex Tanne, leaving fans to assume the team had finally figured out the one spot on the roster that has confounded the franchise for so many years.
Once again the team is left without a ton of hope, between the potential loss of their superstar wide receiver for the season, and even before the cuts they were looking to be stuck with a ton of mediocrity at the signal caller position with one raw talented rookie as their shining jewel. (yahoo) News broke today that Cleveland actually tried to make a move to fill their most desperate need, making a call to the Washington Redskins in order to attempt to make a trade for Kirk Cousins, the incredibly talented backup to Robert Griffin III. (sbnation) Cleveland certainly wasn’t the only team looking to make a deal for the talented backup, Cousins has shown promise in his opportunities on the field, and he’s drawn a ton of interest from teams, although the Redskins aren’t willing to part with him at the present time. (nfl) Unfortunately for Browns fans, they weren’t able to pull off the deal, leaving them with their hopes resting on the arm of an undersized, egotistical, but incredibly talented young man, we’ll have to see how far Johnny Manziel’s powerful arm and nimble legs can carry them.
