The Monetta Drive-in, known to locals as The Big Mo, is a treasure hidden in the small town of…you guessed it! Monetta.
This drive-in features 3 screens, 2 with digital projectors for new releases, and one film projector for the oldies. Tickets are only $8 for a DOUBLE feature – half the price to see one movie at a traditional theater! Children, ages 4-11 get in for $4. Kids under the age of 3 are free. The Big Mo ONLY takes cash and appreciates exact change, but it’s not mandatory.
Not only is it more economical to see a movie here, but the food is cheaper AND better! When at The Big Mo, you must eat a corn dog, some candied nuts, and have their famous lemonade! Buy their “season cup” as a souvenir and get $1 refills for the rest of the season!
The Big Mo has an excellent selection of movies. Each Friday, Saturday and Sunday new movies are shown. Last time I attended, Captain America: The Winter Soldier was playing. In the past, I’ve seen Just Go With It, John Carter, The Avengers, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – and if you dressed like a pirate that night, you got free popcorn!
Here are some items I recommend bringing with you:
– folding chairs
– blanket or jacket
– citronella candle (There aren’t many bugs to begin with, but I hate bugs!)
– and of course a boom box, radio, etc.
Head on out for a movie night under the stars! And now, your feature presentation….
