For the past few weeks, I’ve been in search for a good single cup coffee maker. After reading dozens of reviews and comparing prices, specs, etc, I narrowed my choices down to two. The Keurig Elite K40 Brewing System and Black & Decker Brew ‘N Go. I purchased both units.
Here’s how they compared.
There is nothing like a nice steamy cup of coffee whipped up lighting fast. The Keurig website states that the The Keurig Elite K40 brews the perfect cup in under one minute. It brewed my cup of coffee in about 45 seconds, which is very impressive. The Black & Decker Brew ‘N Go produced a hot cup of coffee in about 2 minutes. I wouldn’t call the Black & Decker Brew ‘N Go performance lighting fast. However, I thought brewing times for both coffee makers were satisfactory.
In order to achieve to the best cup of coffee, the brewing temperature of a coffee maker must be adequate. If the water is too cold, your coffee will taste flat and under brewed. If the water is too hot, your coffee will taste bitter and over extracted. According to the National Coffee Association, a coffee maker should maintain a brewing temperature between 195 – 205 degrees Fahrenheit. Keurig claims an internal brewing temperature of 195 F, which is within the optimal temperature range. The Black & Decker Brew ‘N Go brewing temperature is 195 F as well. However, the Black & Decker seemed to brew a slighter hotter more intense cup of coffee. You can get a better tasting cup coffee out of either brewer by using filtered water and high quality coffee beans.
This is where the big difference surfaces between these two coffee makers.
Black & Decker Brew’n Go retails for about $19.99. A The Keurig Elite K40 will set you back $119.99. The $100 price gap between Black & Decker Brew ‘N Go and The Keurig Elite K40 certainly cannot be ignored. However, you should be able to score a discount for either coffee maker if you search online. Check out CouponCodeWorld.com for coffee coupons and discounts.
