I’ve been longboarding for many years. I started with an entry level longboard, and moved up to more expensive models. After testing various sizes, ranging from 22 inches to 48 inches I think I finally found the best longboard, and I will tell you why.
The Loaded Vanguard, a $300 longboard that is 42″ long and 8.5″ wide. This board can seriously do anything. It comes preloaded with everything you need. There is no need to upgrade any of the parts, as they are all top-quality. Whether you like to cruise, bomb down massive hills or do technical tricks such as sliding, the Vanguard will do it flawlessly.
After you broke-in the board, which consisted of me riding it around for two hours, you will feel the freedom it offers. You can go fast on this thing, really fast. Even when I reach intensely fast speed, the build of the board prevents speed-wobbles, which makes me have a pain-free experience. Even on a flat surface, I can go very fast with just a couple of pushes. This makes it the ultimate board to get around town with.
This board is made with love. It looks as beautiful as it rides. The Vanguard is made for making tight turns, which means you’ll spend more time on your board then carrying it around a sharp intersection. I like to keep my trucks very lose, and because of this, I can turn 180 degrees using just half of a paved road. It’s really unbelievable.
I tend to do a bit of sliding when I longboard. While it’s not usually my main focus when I’m cruising, it’s fun to do and it looks awesome. The design of the Vanguard lets me kick out 360 degree slides with just a flick of my foot. I chose Otang Heat 80a wheels with mine, which are designed for sliding. If you were having trouble sliding on your old board, I would definitely recommend upgrading to the Vanguard. It makes it so easy to execute slides, whether it’s a speed-check or a full stop.
