You’ll find a lot of salons in the Des Moines area that add “and day spa” to the name, but only a few are true spas that offer the relaxing ambiance and full range of spa services that warrant the “day spa” name. Before you book your next spa day in Des Moines, check out these front runners that offer the experience you expect.
Estilo Salon and Day Spa
The Estilo Salon and Day Spa offers high-end, modern spa decor in a 5,700 square foot facility that puts you at ease when you walk in. If the relaxing sound of the fountain doesn’t get you, then the home-like wood floors and rich colors on the wall will. The spa offers a full menu of services including facials, herbal wraps, mud treatments, waxing, nail services and massage, with the option of an infrared sauna treatment before the massage.
Estilo boasts several awards and recognition from both industry magazines and local publications. But perhaps more telling is the more than 900 clients who visit Estilo each week.
You’ll find Estilo Salon and Day Spa at 440 Fairway Drive, Suite 100 in West Des Moines. The location offers ample parking right outside the building. The hours are 9-6 on Monday; 9-7 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 9-5 on Friday and 8-4 on Saturday. Estilo is closed on Sundays.
East Village Spa
Head to the East Village area of downtown to find the East Village Spa. Voted best day spa in Des Moines every year from 2011 to 2014, this spa doesn’t go over the top with luxury decor, but it has just enough spa touches to make it relaxing and welcoming. The nail care suite has an amazing view of the Iowa capitol building.
Try the Signature Massage with a mix of techniques, including aromatherapy, a back mask and warm stones. You can get other types of massages as well, including a couples massage. The spa also offers facials, body scrubs, peels, waxing and nail services.
Head to 601 E. Locust, Suite 202, in Des Moines to find the East Village Spa. Hours are 10-7 on Monday, 10-8 on Tuesday, 10-7 on Wednesday, 10-8 on Thursday, 10-6 on Friday and 10-5 on Saturday. The spa is closed Sundays. To avoid paying for a parking meter, go around the building where you’ll find a free parking lot of clients.
Salon Spa W
A locally owned downtown favorite, Salon Spa W is upscale modern space. The spa’s mission is to provide service unlike anything else in Des Moines. Loyal clients choose from a variety of massages — including prenatal and balancing massages — and facials that range from the basic facial (that’s anything but basic) to skin treatments that reduce signs of aging, give you a glow or tame acne.
You’ll find Salon Spa W at 400 E. Locust, Suite 2, in Des Moines. Spa treatments are available from 9-8 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9-9 on Thursdays, 9-6 on Fridays and 9-5 on Saturdays. The spa is closed Sundays. It is open from 9-4 on Mondays but only for retail purchases.
Sahar’s Salon & Day Spa
Rounding out the list is Sahar’s Salon and Day Spa. This West Des Moines favorite values a quiet, relaxing environment — cell phone use is prohibited as are kids under 12 in the spa area.
If you’re looking for something different, try the 4 Hands Massage. Two massage therapists work away all of your knots simultaneously. Other massage options include hot stone, deep tissue, pregnancy and Thai.
Other services include wraps, scrubs, airbrush tanning, facials and peels. Packages that combine services are available if you want a longer stay at the spa. Sahar’s also has a Medispa offering colon hydro therapy, permanent hair reduction, microdermabrasion, BOTOX and Juvederm Injectable Gel.
Sahar’s is located at 4100 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Hours are 9-8 Monday through Thursday, 9 to 7 on Friday and 9 to 5 on Saturdays. The spa is closed Sundays.
