Form SET (M) is filed by applicants who wish to become settled persons (permanent residents) in the UK, based on their marriage to a settled person or a British citizen. When applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain, applicants have a number of options, such as choosing a premium service, where a decision will be made quickly on the same day at a Public Enquiry Office (PEO) in Belfast, Cardiff, Croydon, Glasgow, Liverpool, Sheffield or Solihull. One of the other options also includes using a settlement checking service when filing form SET (M).
It costs £90 ($148.50) for the main applicant and an additional £10 ($16.50) for each dependent listed in the SET (M) application form. This is much more affordable than paying for a premium service at a Public Enquiry Office. In addition, applicants who use a settlement checking service will have a lot of the worry taken out away, as a trained member of staff will carefully check to ensure the form is correctly and fully completed and that all supporting documentation has been included.
Less Risk Involved
When filing an application with the UK Border Agency, there is always an element of risk involved. SET (M) must be accurately completed; otherwise it will be rejected. A simple mistake, such as enclosing the wrong sized photographs (they must be 45mm high x 35mm wide) in Section 1, can result in the rejection of the whole application. By using a settlement checking service, much of the risk involved in filing this application form will be eliminated.
Once your application has been carefully checked for accuracy the form will be sent via Special Delivery to the Home Office for consideration. Using a settlement checking service lessens the risk of the application being returned as incomplete or rejected altogether. Even if you have gone through the application on a number of occasions with a fine tooth comb, it is easy to overlook a simple or careless mistake. A fresh pair of eyes can spot a mistake for you.
Applicants are under no obligation to use a settlement checking service. It is simply one of many options that are open to them. However, for those who do choose to use a settlement checking service, applicants can receive peace of mind in knowing that they have done all they can to satisfy the requirements as set out by the UK Border Agency in form SET (M) and that their application stands a higher chance of being accepted.
