There was time when everyone traveled without technological gadgets. You might have had to ask strangers for directions. You probably had to drive for miles before finding a terrible restaurant, because you couldn’t read Yelp reviews on your phone. Let me save you from this fate. Here are the five tech gadgets guaranteed to make your trip more fun:
Tablets may be a bit of a luxury, but they sure help lighten your travel load. They allow you to read, watch movies, take pictures and play games. My husband and son have enjoyed the iPad on many of our trips. For families traveling with children, they have revolutionized travel. Kids can be immersed in activities for hours while trapped on an airplane, in a car or on a train.
Smartphones allow us to use the Internet, GPS, send texts, play games, take pictures and make phone calls while on the go. Thanks to apps that meet almost any desire, a smartphone is quickly becoming something that is hard to live without. We like our Samsung Android Smartphone, because it’s pretty intuitive and user friendly.
While this isn’t a true necessity, because your smartphone may also have GPS. We love the Garmin GPS that can be suctioned to your car window. The display is a good size and the option to hear audio directions is nice. One might assume this is only used on road trips. On a recent flight to Phoenix, my husband turned it on in-flight and was able to view exactly where we were moment by moment. This kept him happily entertained for most of the flight.
Every trip needs a soundtrack. You can listen solo or share your playlist with your fellow travelers. There are a lot of choices when it comes to MP3 players, but you can’t go wrong with with an iPod Classic.
Sony Noise Canceling Headphones will save you when you are seated next to a crying baby on an airplane. You can plug them into your iPad for listening to a movie or into your iPod for hearing music. They make for a much more pleasurable trip.
Pack these gadgets in your backpack and you’ll thank me. Now you won’t have have to sit quietly staring off into space while waiting for your flight. Instead, you can play Candy Crush and update your Facebook status with pictures of the cheeseburger you just ate. Happy travels.
